Could It Be Colic?

My daughter would always get fussy between the hours of 6p and 8 pm...but lately she seems to just cry and cry around that time for no good reason. We have tried feeding her, rocking her, etc...but the only thing that seems to calm her down is to stand by the sink and letting the water run.
It stops her crying every time.
Of course it's hard to do that because I really don't like wasting the water and my 17 month old son is usually getting dinner and a bath at that time. I have read up on colic and I am wondering if perhaps that is what she has, but what I have read indicates that it should get better by 3 months of age and that the crying lasts 3 hours....but she just turned 3 months and it seems to intensified and she only cries for about an hour or so. Does anyone have any experience with this type of issue? Should I get a white noise machine to simulate the water sound

What can I do next?

Get one of those sound machines that has the waterfall sound, or just buy a small water fountain. My daughter had colic and I know, it really sucks, but good news is that she will grow out of it within a few months (hopefully sooner).

My daughter was the same way...it started getting better around 3 mos, but didn't completely go away until about 6 mos. And...she is still pretty fiesty. If a white noise machine works...go for it.

Melissa,

Yes, it could be colic. My second son was colicky for the first year of his life! It seemed all we did was walk the floor with him.

Another way to let baby hear the sound of water running is to do a load of laundry. Start the washer and stand by the machine until it fills up. When our washer would start to agitate I would put the baby in his car seat right on the washing machine (holding it all the time of course!) he also liked the spin cycle too. It sure gave my back a rest! Just a suggestion, I remember those days and I know they can be trying. Good luck to you.

I dont know if it matters if it is colic or not..But the baby is fussy and you want her to stop fussing.

My daughter was also fussy usually in the evening. Eventually it stopped but it is very tiring when they cry and cry.

I did buy a "white noise machine" It helped a lot. I remember driving to the store to buy the machine aand being oh so tired.. and hoping she would sleep.

babies r us sells a cheap yucky noise machine for about $20 - the sound was awful.

Sharper image sells a nice machine for 69 - it is small and has 20 sounds to choose from.

I highly recommd the nose machine.. My daughter also liked the running water sound. so the babbling brook and waterfall sounds were music to her ears..

That was the worst time for both of my kids as well. It turned out they were just ready for bed. I didn't want to put them down at 6/6:30, but actually when I did, they ended up sleeping better and longer. This lasted until they were about 9 months and I could start moving the bed time back further.

Your DD needs some organic tea. Try baby magic tea instead of white noise machine. It's very good for colicky babies.

You can also try "grip water" it is a better form of milicon gas drops. I hear it works wonders. My son used to cry when I would give him a bath unless I ran the water while he was in his tub. I do agree that a fan or a white noise machine would give you rest. you can also try doing earplugs (that let some but not ALL noises in) my friends did that with their baby. they would hold her but they couldnt get frustrated bc they didnt hear the screaming and we all know that in our hearts crying takes a toll on us rather we want to admit it or not. Just my advice I hope some of this is helpful to you.

Hi Melissa,
I would for sure, get a white noise machine! You've got nothing to lose, that just might do it, because it has the same kind of sound as water, and from what I hear, it really helps with that issue, in some babies.
