Could I Get Pregnant Now?

So here is the background. I have only had 2 period sense I stopped nursing my daughter who is now 16 months. I had the first one and then the next one was 34 days later which I heard is normal when you first start to get your period back.....to have a little longer than a 28 day cycle. So last night my hubby and I had sex but we were out of condoms so we just didn't use anything. (I have been moody and feeling like I am about to start my period soon which would put me at a 28 day cycle this month) So we didn't think anything about it. But now today I am kind having a heavier discharge like you have when you ovulate and I counted on the calender and if I am having a 34 day cycle again this month then yeah I would be ovulating right now! So my question is what are chances that my cycle would still be a 34 day cycle? When you first started to get your period back after nursing where they longer for a while or did every one get closer to a 28 day cycle? It wouldn't be horrible if I got pregnant now....we just weren't planning on it just yet.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I started my period! Well today is day 34 of my cycle and thankfully I started my period. So whether or not I was ovulating when we had unprotected sex I obviously didn't get pregnant. And I'm glad because we really weren't ready just yet to have another one. So thanks so much for all your input.

Mine got shorter like so close together my doc told me I needed birth control pills just to try and straighten it out... everyone is diffrent and you might be one who has them 34 days apart. Call the doc tomorow and ask them the same questions I know I was so happy to have all my questions answered :)

everyone is different, it is entirely possible you just got pregnant. but it's also way too early to tell, even if you are ovulating it might not happen. still the same answer...wait and see! it literally could just easily go one way as the other, at this point. but i am "pretty" sure not even your dr. could tell you after 24 hours lol.

You could absolutely be pregnant. Between my 2, I only got one period, so I had no idea how long my cycle was. I had a period on Feb. 16th....so around March 5th, I thought I would have ovulated already....apparently not. My hubby and I had sex that night, not bothering to use anything (we weren't too worried if we DID get pregnant...we wanted to start trying again in a few months anyway). So that night I got a sharp pain on my right side that felt like an ovulation pain. Then I started feeling sick, craving weird things, etc. And because I ovulatated late, I must have also had a longer cycle, so the HPTs I took at 28 days didn't register the pregnancy. So if you are late with your period, and the first test is negative, wait a few days and test again.

I didn't even get a period and I got pregnant while nursing. I know that doesn't directly answer your question, but It's totally possible that you are pregnant.

After my pregnancy (which was almost 4 years ago) my cycles are more 34 day one now, my body has never gone back to the 24 cycle day. Every woman's body is going to be different it is hard to say when or if your cycle will be back to your norm (or you may just have a new norm).

Not sure what others have said but everyone is different in how their cycle comes back or stays away and ovulate or not .. I do know it is possible to ovulate WITHOUT having a period so you can get pregnant at any time. Or ovulate with a very mild spotting that seems like nothing like period at all.. I would just go with that knowing it can happen any time period or not.

Mine are irregular and my youngest is almost 2 years and hasn't nursed in 8 months. I was going up to six weeks between periods and as little as a few days, so now that we're trying to get pregnant I have no idea when I'm ovulating or due, so keep wasting pregnancy tests irrationally. Good luck either way. :)

Hello!

I definitely think you could be pregnant! I wouldn't put too much on 28 or 34 days. Even if you are looking at one or the other, you can still get pregnant a few days before or a few days after you ovulate. 28 and 34 are so close together that the date of ovulation wouldn't make much of a difference (again, since it isn't only one day out of the month that you can conceive, but a few days in either direction).

Having said that, if you are, I know you have said that it would be horrible if you got pregnant. I wanted to share something that is happening in my own family and what the outcome has been. My little sister is 21 and just got married in August. She was on the pill and was busy moving to another home and forgot to take it. She took it later and followed the directions (don't have sex for however many days it says). Well, turns out she had sex a few days before she missed the pill and so she became pregnant. She was DEVASTATED. She didn't want any kids until later in her marriage. She thought everyone would be upset or grumpy about it. She was sad and felt like all sorts of plans had been ruined. Well, she's 22 weeks along now and found out that she is having a girl, Avery Mae! She is the most excited Mommy ever and never thought that she would have wanted this baby at this point in her life. Not too many pregnancies are planned and most of us have felt like you when we thought or knew we were pregnant and the timing wasn't right. Babies come when they come and when they get here, we can't imagine what it would have been like without them.

Keep us posted because we all want to know how this turns out!! Hugs!!
