Could I Get Pregnant?

Hello mama's,

I am on the nuvaring, have been for 7 years. Over the last year I have been seriously contemplating coming off of it since it has been 7 years w/ no break. During this time I have faithfully put it in and took it out on schedule. However, this past week when I should have put it in...which would have been last Thursday I totally forgot UNTIL this morning (Wednesday) after my husband and I had sex. Do you think that I could get pregnant from this? I know my question is probably a "duh" answer but I have not even thought about pregnancy since I have been on the ring for that long.

Should I go ahead and put it back in now or wait until the beginning of my next period.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I finally got to talk to my doctor. He told me to wait until my next period to put it in AND there is a possibilty that I could get pregnant. Wow, I'm a little nervous from that. I don't know why I'm thinking it's like an antibiotic...once you're done taking it the effect will last for at least 3 weeks. I guess I got a tad complacent. AND No, I definitely was not trying to get pregnant.... but if it happens hopefully it's a girl. :) But I really hope for no surprises!

Thanks for the answers.

You certainly could anytime you have sex there is that possibility birth control or not because nothing is 100% except not having sex.

I don't know enough about the nuvaring to know if you should put it in or wait. Are there hormones in it, like some IUD's? Call your OBGYN- they will know better.

I know the odds on getting pregnant after unprotected sex ..one time...are fairly low. But, one time is all that did it for 2 of my 4. AND, even when you have birth control, it's not 100% - yeah, that's the other 2 of mine. Let's just say, my kids were DEFINITELY meant to be here! LOL!!

I'd wait until after your next period to put it back in. I did this once when I was on the pill, we were on a trip and I forgot to bring them. The dr told me to wait to get back on until my next cycle. You could just use a temporary form of bc until then, like condoms etc. Of course give your dr a call about it as well, but that is the advice my dr gave me. But do be careful if you aren't wanting to get pregs, before my next period, I got prego!! It was ok, bc we decided to go for it, but I was fertile in two weeks baby!! Take care :D

Of course you could get preggers! I would talk with your OB and see what they say. You may need to wait it out and take a test and not put it in till next month. Either way, talk to the doc they can help you. BW!

Technically its possible to be pregnant, however, usually it takes a month or so for the body to get off the hormones. That said, next month could be when they're out of your system, even if you've put a new one in today or wait until next month. I'd suggest waiting until the next time to put it in, and use secondary protection for the next 2 months at least, just to be sure.

Sorry, I know this is a hassle!
