Mine are having crazy sock day! I'm actually glad because after they wore the make up and the costume all day at school it never looked good for trick or treating. And it was messy at school.
Hi Moms,
Are your children allowed to wear their costumes to school on Friday?
From what I remember growing up in public school, we always wore our costumes on Halloween and even had small parades through the school.
My daughter is in her first year at a public school and they don't allow any costumes!!
Is this something all schools do or just ours??

When did people become so serious? All of the fun is being sucked out of our society!! Halloween is awesome... when I was young, Halloween was the "stuff of memories"... now it is just BORING! We used to wear our costumes to school and celebrate with big parties... and yes, they were gorey too-- less princesses and more ghouls and goblins! That is the spirit of the holiday-- make believe, people! It is a day where we can "suspend our disbelief" and celebrate imagination. No ghost stories in school?? No costumes?? No parties?? What the heck has this world come too?? I think it is silly... serious Texans!!
My kids were told to think about what they want to be when they grow up and they can come dressed as that. My daughter is going as a teacher. She has a little jacket and skirt set I always thought was too old for her but it will be perfect for Friday.
Schools have a lot more freedom than you think...it's all semantics. We are having "Character Day" at my school in which the kids can dress up as their favorite storybook character and parade through the school. It just "happens" to be on Halloween. As a veteran teacher, I still do all of my ghost/jack-o-lantern themed units. If parent expresses concern, their child can make a pumpkin pie pic instead of a jack-o-lantern or they may work on another activity altogether. There's always a way around those types of things.
No costumes in Crowley ISD either. On friday to support red ribbon week- the kids get to wear a sports jersey. But that is the closest we come to "dressing up". I think it is too distracting anyways- so I am ok with it.
It is probably all schools...I know all of PISD is no costumes. Get used to it...unfortunately most schools do not celebrate any holidays any more. Christmas parties have become "winter parties" and Halloween and Easter are usually completely swept under the carpet.
Yes, no costumes at my son's school either, but I think that's a good idea. When you think about it, they are going to school with ages as old as 5th graders. Some of the older kids probably would like to dress up with more gory, bloody costumes. That would really frighten too many of the little ones.
It becomes too distracting for a learning environment.
They go to school to learn - not to play dress up. They can dress up after school and go to all those halloween parties and trick-or-treating.
We are PISD as well and Kelli is correct.
TOO many religions and opinions. We stocked treasure boxes for teachers a couple years ago and most of the things we brought were "banned". Anything specifically Halloween, holiday etc
My son is 14 and costumes were never allowed. Somtimes the daycare would allow, as long as there were no weapons and when my sister taught private K that was her rule too
Our school is having a costume parade for K-2. They can wear a non-scary costume with no mask or face paint, but they have to change out of it after the parade. It's Red Ribbon Week, so they will dress up for the theme that day.
When I was teaching, we had story book character day most years on Halloween, and one year, we had Career Day where they dressed up as what they wanted to be when they grew up.
Yes, he is - and I'm not thrilled about it.
