We use Corelle for everyday. I found some at a kitchen store where pieces are sold separately and I just bought about 20 plates, bowls, and pieces that we use.
We don't use the cups and saucers
just wondereded what your "china" preference is.
I love correlle because it is so light and durable.
But because DH was adamant that we stick with pfaltzgraf because that was what his mom had, we now have heavy, scratched up and not as pretty dishes. lol I have dreams of accidentally smashing them all. but i'm sure he would just buy more,
I figure if it makes him happy it really isn't that big of deal, until i'm lifting them up and down out of the cupboard.
so what do you prefer?
guess there are two strong camps. i never knew, lol.
and yeah, hubby cares about alot of crap most guys don't, makes it a little difficult. but in the end i'm just happy i have food to put on my dishes.

I had Pfaltzgraf for years (literally--like 20) I got an "itch" for new dishes so I gave them to a friend. I miss them, especially when I see them at her place. They held up remarkably well for how old they are--look new!
I don't care for Correlle at all.
Been looking to switch out my dishes ONCE AGAIN (should have kept my Pfaltzgraf!) but having a hard time finding something I like that is made in the USA. Pfaltzgraf is not made here now and some Correlle is.
Buy Bar Keepers Friend and clean the dishes. Swear to bob every mark will come off and the dishes will look new.
My kitchen floor is tile, have you ever seen Corelle shatter? Freaking makes glasses look safe. Nope, my Pfaltzgraf breaks in chunks if at all. I will stick with that. :)
I love Pfaltzgraf!
I actually registered for Villeroy & Boch white "Mismatch". The plates are white but each setting is a completely different pattern than the others. It has a shabby chic mismatch look to it, and then in the last few years I added some white Pfaltzgraf settings, to add to the mismatch theme. BUT we have 2 Corelle square sets for our lakehouse - one for breakfast and one for dinner and I absolutely love them! Soooo easy to clean and keep up with, esp for a house full of people you are trying to feed. If I had to chose as if my life depended on it, I'd stick with my Corelle. So affordable, durable and pretty.
Our dishes are from Crate & Barrel. I thought Correlle felt cheap.
I grew up with Pfaltzgraf, and so that is what I prefer. Correlle feels cheap to me. However, now that I have young children who are about to outgrow their plastic plates, I am considering an inexpensive set just until my kids are a bit older.
However, it doesn't really matter what we prefer. Unless your husband is setting the table and doing all the dishes, I think you should get some say. If you want Correlle, why not get a really nice set of Pfaltzgraf for holidays or company dinners, and then a set of Correlle for the daily stuff?
I actually like the "look" of something like Pfatzgraf better, but we use Correlle! My kids have dropped these dishes on the kitchen floor and in the sink, and they never break. I like being able to use "regular" dishes now instead of the cute little plastic plates (for the kids) They are 8 and 10 now, so it was time to move on from Gerber. Someday I'll have nicer dishes, but for now these look decent and you can't beat how they hold up!!
Pfaltzgraf
I inherited a set from a family member and just kept building onto it. I like its pattern and it feels sturdy in my hands.
We have 3 sets of dishes here. I tend to go for the pretty dinnerware. I'm sure everything tastes better when served on nice plate.
We have corelle and usually use it to microwave. But my boys won't eat off the corelle plates. They will transfer the hot food to one of the melamine "art" plates that they and their sisters created years ago. So everyone has their own preference.
I'm so ready to ditch my pfalzgraf for correlle! SOOOOO sick of the chips and scratches and how heavy it is! I would go with fiesta ware -- still really heavy, but much more durable than pfalzgraf. I would never get pfalzgraf again.
I'm just surprised your husband even cares :) My husband could eat off paper plates every night and not even notice!
Every year when my family asks me what I'd like for Christmas, I answer, Corelle. Here I am, 6 years after I started asking for it, still without a single piece of Corelle.
My parents have Corelle, and having 5 kids in the family, they learned quickly that they were the best thing.
My Pfaltzgraff was so heavy it took the cabinet down! I sold all of it, every lick of it on eBay, and made quite a profit. They are collectable and you can look up the retail online. Just be sure that if you ship them, they are packed with tons of cush and insured for breakage (I had a few break and refunded the $, STILL made a big profit). Then I went out and bought a lovely new vitreous china Mikasa set in embossed white!
We have Corelle.
They just fit into our cupboards and dishwasher better.
I like the lighter feel.
I don't like pfaltzgraf because if I ever dropped it (it happens), with my luck the thing would land on my foot and break it.
Pfalzgraf hands down.
My mom has Correlle and I just can't stand the sound the knife makes on the plate when cutting. Growing up we had melamine plates which I think are perfect for everyday dishes. Saying that though, I use stoneware plates for everyday.
We now use Corelle. Our pattern is newer https://www.ecornermarket.com/121-corelle-contours-16-pc-...
I like it because there is a spot to hang onto it. We got a 4 sets at an outlet so we can use them for BIG family gatherings as well. They tend to be informal during the Holidays because there are so many people so we use them then too.
I've had pfaltzgraff and the pattern I had easily marked (grey) and wasn't very durable.
I really like corelle..... it doesn't break near as easily, and it is very lightweight!
There are so many pretty patterns, and many with corresponding accessories, like glassware or cooking dishes.
As others have said, use the corelle for everyday, and the Pfaltzgraf for special....
Can someone tell me where to buy correll - what stores carry them? I'm just looking for plain white :) Thanks!
I was a china crystal, blah blah, house wares buyer.
I love beautiful dishes all sorts, but I am also a small woman and I cannot carry a bunch of heavy dishes. They are heavy and my hands are small.
We actually use Wedgwood china for every day because it is the strongest.
Macy's sells their own version of bone china ( the strongest dishes there are) and it goes on sale a lot.
In your case I also would use correlle. If your husband likes pfaltzgraf, he can care for them and help you since they are not easy for you to handle. He can set the table, clear the table, place them in the dishwasher and place them back in the shelves.
It is not a big deal. You need to save your back for more important things than big heavy dishes.
I have one pretty Pfaltzgraff set for special occasions and 2 sets of Corelle for everyday use. The Corelle set that was given to us 2nd hand is white and doesn't scratch. The cobalt blue Corelle set we received as an engagement gift in 2002 is scratched. Corelle will break if you drop it or hit it just the right way, but it is more durable. So what do we use daily? A set of stoneware dishes from the Dollar Tree that we bought for our son's 1st birthday party (he's 7 now). No scratches, goes in the microwave, and is festive. We still use the Corelle as well, but I'm not sure how much longer it will reside in our kitchen. Good luck settling up with hubby!
We registered for Pfaltzgraf for our wedding and used that until our first move. Everything got packed up for a year until we bought our house. Almost 5 years laster they are still in boxes.
It's not that we don't like them, but with two young boys the Corelle are so much more practical.
I actually can't wait until the boys are old enough to be trusted with them. Maybe just a few years?
I would use the fact that chips and scratches harbor bacteria and THAT is the main reason to ditch the ol' pfaltzgraf and move on. Perfect and logical reasoning that should not be argued with :)
We use to have beautiful hand painted dishes that I just loved, but they were taking up a ton of cabinet space, (which could eventually fall due to weight) were not safe in the microwave (plate would be burning hot, but food not) but they were so pretty....anyway, my daughter is getting to the age where she wants to help with dishes plus she is using the ones we use so it was time to switch to Correlle and I am super happy about it. They take up very little space (we got half our cabinet back), are safe in microwave and are hard to break.
I love the Correlle for everyday use. I can't imagine the heavy stuff for every day! Although, I guess it would build up my arm muscles!! lol!!!
