Cooking Homework for 5Th Grader. Need Ideas

My 5th grader has cooking homework. She must measure and stir herself and also set the oven or stove. The recipe must have at least 3 ingredients (no peanuts) and must be served at room temp and has to be able to be set out all day. They are doing a taste-test on May 11th. The only thing that's coming to mind is rice-crispy treats. Any ideas? I HATE cooking and am no good at coming up with recipes.

Duh! Lol. Didn't even think about boxed mixes! I'm in lala land today.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We ended up making snickerdoodles (her idea). We made them Feindold-friendly though so that my 4 year old could have them. They were delicious and packed full of flax and whole grain! Who knew?? :)

Oh I have the perfect thing. Chocolate Chip cookies. Not from the frozen place.. Go to the baking aisle and get a bag of nestle's chocolate chip morsals. The directions for making the cookies are on the back of the bag. They are yummy, can sit out all day.

Umm.. a box of brownie mix?

That's a typical boxed mix recipe. Or if you are worried the prepackaged mixes might have been prepared in a factory where peanuts are possible cross-contaminants:

ROFL...

She needs to go to school with a piece of paper that says:

In cooking, we do not measure, we smell, imagine, taste, add, taste, adjust. In BAKING we measure. Cooking is an art. A highly subjective art. Baking is the science.

Hi! How about pound cake? Really easy and some strawberries or blueberries on the side to go with it. Or are you looking for food not desserts?

Rice Krispy Treats have exactly three ingredients, set out fine, and are served at room temp. They are really easy to make and she can even shape them while they are still soft into balls and put a sucker stick in them to make Krispy Pops. You can do it with coco krispies or fruity pebbles.

I concur with brownies from a mix, there's also basic sugar cookies (the drop kind not the roll out kind), cinnamon rolls made with premade frozen bread dough that you thaw roll out and add butter, sugar and cinnamon. Roll it up and then cut it with some thread to make the rolls, bake and then you can teach her how to make powder sugar frosting from the recipe on the back of the box.

well, how about pizza dough? My son is doing cooking class and we just made homemade pizza. If you made it cheese, I'm sure it could be set out for awhile, not sure how long it acceptable though!! I was thinking of no bake cookies, but I think those might have peanut butter in them, maybe some no bake recipes don't. I know they are easy though!! Good luck.

Your child really DOES need a cooking lesson..

Rice Krispy treats are too easy and do not require an oven.. That is the true test of a cook.

Cupcakes, muffins, Bread pudding.
