I do it on the grill quite often. Campfire should be similar except you would probably use one of those metal stick things that you would use to grill hotdogs. Regardless, soak the ears of corn in water for a good 15 minutes before you cook them. Keep the leaves on them too. The leaves will char but the corn inside will stay moist. Just cook it until it's the way you like it.

Leave it in the husk. OR pull the husk back, put mayonnaise and garlic or allspice on the corn and put the husk back in place. Place on some ash next to the fire and place coals all around the cob. Depending on how hot the coals are, remove and eat in 5 to 10 minutes.

The husk becomes your handle. No foil or paper to add to the landfill.

I don't know why mayonnaise works, but it does. I've watched the corn on the cob vendors at fairs and mayonnaise is what they use and I love their corn on the cob.

Good luck to you an yours.

We've not done it on a campfire but we do cook it on the grill.

First, I leave all the husks on, soak in water an hour or so then put it straight on the grill, turning it over every now and then. When done, shuck it and it is great!!

Remove husk , spread with butter or margarine, and sprinkle with salt. Take a paper towel and get wet, then wring out. Fold towel in half and wrap around ear, then wrap fully with heavy duty foil. Then set on grill or on hot (not fire) ashes. It should only take about 10 minutes, turning every few minutes.

We do ~ I shuck the corn and wrap it in a moist paper towel then in aluminum foil. The moisture from the paper towel steams the corn. It turns out yummy and we don't add butter or mayo or salt!

I pull the husks back, get off as much silk as possible. Soak in cold water for awhile in the sink (so the husks don't burn as much). Before putting the husks back up, I'll drizzle some melted butter, salt and pepper, sometimes olive oil garlic powder, maybe some parmesan cheese.

Husks back in place grill then, turn often, depending on the heat, maybe a half hour, 45 minutes.

Yum.

Yay for summer!

We do it two different ways depending on whether I remembered to soak it first.
Easiest: Soak the corn (with husk on) in water for 30 minutes or so and then roast over the fire (use a grate or put on a stick). The husk will turn black, but the inside will be perfectly steamed.
Fastest: Open the husk at the top a bit, pull out the silk and run some water into the opening, then wrap in foil and roast.

I think it comes out best when cooked in the husk, but if you don't soak it, the husk will burn before the corn is done, wrapping it in foil will help prevent that.
Good luck!

It is great this way. You can put it on a stick like a marshmellow, but the easiest way is to put it in tin foil with some butter and put it on the grate or straight on the coals. Yummy

I haven't but sounds delicious! My assumption would be wrap it in some tin foil over the fire, but as I said, haven't done it so can't say for sure!

Follow this and you will never cook corn any other way..

Get corn on the cob and soak it in beer for 2-3 hours (a dark beer is best, like a sam adams but bud lite will do). I HATE beer so don't think eew.. If you have the real kind (with the husk) leave all that on. Then after the soak throw it on the grill with the husk still on and cook it (I think we did like 20 min?).. Pull the husks off and baste with butter and carmelize the outside. I like mine more brown that not but it depends on your taste. You can't taste the beer and all the alcohol cooks off. This is seriously the best corn I've had in my life.

I second (or third) the suggestion to soak the unshucked cobs in water, and then throw them on a grate over the fire (if you have one). Easy and less stuff to clean up (or throw out).
