Grand Marnier gives an organe flavor. The cheaper option would be Triple Sec. If you are looking for an non alcoholic option just add orange juice concentrate ( the frozen kind) instead of the Grand Marnier.
I found a recipe for creme brulee french toast. It looks absolutely delicious and I am going to make it for Christmas morning.
The recipe calls for a teaspoon of Grand Marnier. We are not drinkers, and it would be an incredible waste to spend $30 (i looked) on a bottle of alcohol for one teaspoon!
If I skip this will it still taste good? Is there something I can substitute?
As usual ladies, thanks for the quick responses!
I live in a very small area and so far have only found a large bottle. However, I will look some more for the minis. If not I will add more vanilla and use some orange too! Can't wait!
Merry Christmas!

I make this recipe every year...it's our Christmas tradition for the past 5 years. I do not put any alcohol in it at all. Instead I use orange extract. I tried orange juice once and it worked ok, but orange extract gives a stronger orange flavor, we liked it more. If it's not already on the menu, add bacon...the salty goes great with the sweet!
The alcohol burns off while cooking but what you want is the richness of taste you'll not get whit using a cooking extract. Buy the mini's (think airline sizes) at the liquor store, you will only spend a few dollars.
Morning! If you are not drinkers, you could skip the alcohol and probably just add orange juice.
P.S. Liquor stores do sell "mini" bottles. I bought one of the Grand Marnier mini's super cheap and use it just for recipes.
Merry Christmas!
I'd go buy the little mini bottle if thats all you need. I'm not a wine drinker but I use it for a few recipes and I always buy the small individual bottles so I have it on hand.
I had that at a shower--it's SO good. But the cook did say that it's better with it in. I'm in the same boat as you. If I can find a mini bottle, I'll go that way. Enjoy!
(Does your recipe call for it being done & kept in the fridge overnight? Mine does.)
I'd use vanilla or almond extract.
I would just leave it out. If you've never had the recipe before, you don't know what it tastes like, so you'll never miss it! :)
Or just google "Grand Marnier substitutes for recipes" and you should find something.
Grand Marnier is a orange liquor with a little hint of almond. I am sure you could use a mixture of almond extract and orange oil or zest and get the same result!
Enjoy, it sounds delicious
Don't know an answer to this at all, but oh, haven't had breakfast yet and this looks yum, yum
Honestly, I'd just skip it. Bet it's delish anyway!
Yeah, I would use orange and almond extract too. Since it has an alcohol base it'll be pretty close, and you could use the leftovers for baking or candy making (truffles and such)!
