Convertible Car Seat to Booster Seat Transition

I do believe my car seat has reached the max with my daughter because the belts are becoming too tight - she is 4 1/2 years old, about 38 lbs, almost 40 inches. My car seat has been through the works. I HAVE looked up Texas laws for booster seats - they say 5 years old. Has anyone tranistioned eariler for their child's comfort but still keeping safety foremost?

What brands of booster seats are recommended? I prefer a seat that can be placed in the middle of the back seat.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

The minimum for a booster is at least 40lbs. And that is just the minimum. Your daughter isn't there. She's still on the small side to go with booster. And she needs to be big enough that she fits properly in a high back booster. My son was on the smaller side and we just got him a Britax high back booster for dad's car at age 6 and even now I have to remind him to sit properly in it.

If this seat:

had been available when I was getting a seat for my then 4 year old it's the one I would have gone with. The seat he is in now will keep him in a 5 point harness to 80lbs and 53 inches. The great thing about the seat above is once your daughter out grows the harness part it will carry her for a long time booster wise.

I thought in Texas they had to be in a car seat OR a booster until they reached 6 years old then they could just be in the regular seat...but I find that the laws changed and it's now 8 years old, wow, that's really old. The only reason they need the booster is to raise them up high enough to be safe in the seat belt. Any booster you like will be fine.

This is a good article but you have prob. read it.

My son will be 3 on 1/10, he has been in a high back booster since October. He is 43 inches and 45lbs, a big boy. I wouldn't feel safe putting your daughter in a booster, she still seems too small. We are saving up to buy this seat

and put him back in a 5 point harness, after a few months I don't feel comfortable having him in just a seat belt since he is so young. He outgrew his convertable seat fast and we purchased a high back booster thinking it was the next safest thing but I think it was too soon.

She's still pretty small, I'm more concerned about her height than her weight, though she shoudl be at least 40lbs in a booster seat. With her height, a booster jsut won't fit her well. My daughter is 3.5, 37" tall and 30lbs ands till rear facing... she doesn't come near fitting in a booster properly.

While you could probably get away witha high back booster like a Graco Turbobooster (they fit small kids best), I would really really stress for you to purchase a Graco Nautilus for her. Harness to 65lbs and then booster to 100lbs.

Never ever put a child under 6+yrs old in a no back booster seat.

I'd purchase a grace nautilus and still harness her.

I thought that my son was big enough as well, he is only 2.5, but 39 lbs and 40" tall. In the back seat of our truck and our jeep, it is way more dangerous for him to have his legs crushed up to his chest then it is for him to be in a booster instead of the forward facing car seat. However, I put him in it the other day and he wouldn't stay sitting up- he kept leaning over to play with his brother...so it is back to the convertible Car seat for him. The booster I have has the safety slide that goes on the shoulder harness to adjust to the childs height.
