I am going to need to get 2 convertible car seats in the next month or so and I know nothing about them. All I know is that most are expensive, and I want one that is going to last me a while, and is easy to use (install and take out). Any recommendations would be great! Thanks!

What can I do next?

We just bought two Alpha Omega Elite seats for my 12 mth old twins. So far we really like them. They are a good price (even if they don't hold the 100 lbs. as they say)
We had a spit up accident and it cleaned up like new.
Kids still seem a little uncomfortable in them (much different then infant seats:) but they are getting used to them.
I did lots of research and you will find that all seats and goods and bads. I guess it's whatever works best for you family and budget!
Good luck

My husband used to work at a place that did testing. He did some tests where they had to use car seats. He said that Britax was always the easiest to get on the seat and the safest. I also asked at babies r us and they said that britax is expensive because they spend a lot of time and money on research and development while most other companies don't do much research. We ended up buying the cheapest britax (which is like 240) and I LOVE it. It is so easy to move between cars and my daughter seems so comfortable in it. The only issue we have with it is that it is a little difficult to change it from a rear facing to a forward facing if you use the anchor system. I hope this helps you.

Hi we use the Alpha Omega Elite convertable car seat and all 3 of my kids have been very comfortable in it. You can get it anywhere but I've found Sears often has it on sale and also Wal-mart carries it. It runs between $130 and $160 depending on the sales and we've found it to fit well with our seats in both of our Fords.

If you want to try one and see how it all works I would recommend going to Babies R Us because the sales staff is very knowlegable and you can try out all the different brands to see what you like best. However before you buy check with other stores or online because usually you can find the same thing for cheaper.

britax is grest but expensive

check out the fisher price convertible... it is also made by britax but is cheaper..

I think you can see the fisher price car seat on their website.. it is sold at babies rus for about 180.

but it last until 40 or 50 pounds.. some seats do go up to 80 pounds - so that might be worth it...

We did a decent amount of reseach on this and I kept hearing again and again how great the Britax was. We got 2 of the roundabouts (the least expensive) I do kinda wish I had spent the extra money and gotten one of the ones that goes to a higher weight and height beacuse my son has tunred out to be in the 90th percentiles.

make sure that it converts to a booster as well. My hubby is tall and my son was average height we thought but he actually outgrew his convertible seat before he could be put in one of the booster seats that uses just a lap belt. They still need a 5 point harness until 30lbs and I think it was 3 years of age.
It just stuck because we purchased a nice padded convertible seat and then we had to go spend more money on a high back booster with a 5 point harness.
Just a heads up so you don't have to buy so many seats.

We have been looking around for convertible car seats, too and are anxiously awaiting the new Recaro Signo. It is suppose to be available this month but it keeps getting pushed back. It supports children from 5 to 35 pounds rear facing and 20 to 70 pounds forward facing with a maximum child height of 60 inches. I have been extremely picky about car seats and don't care for too many out there but have had my mind made up the moment I found this. My husband loves it because it is made by Recaro so it is like our daughter is in a racing seat! It is a bit more costly then some of the others but I think it will be worth it in quality alone. http://www.strollandgo.com/Recaro-Signo-Car-Seat_p_0-934....

H.~you are going to want a car seat that will hold a child up to 80-100 pounds. michigan state law is that a child has to be in a car seat/booster seat till they are 80lbs or 8 years old. you also want to look at the padding. some car seats have no padding. for both of my kids i went with the alpha omega. it is reseanable on price and will last till they need to get out of them. Good luck!

You'll probably need a Britax. I actually own one of the Alpha 3in1s (Alpha Omega, Alphasport, etc) and they are NOT worth the money. They are outgrown very quickly and no 80-100 kid will ever fit in one. Many kids get too tall for the harness before they're even 3! The harness on those only goes up to 40 lbs and then you have to use it as a booster. They are very unsafe boosters. What you probably want is a seat that will have your child harnessed for the longest time. For that it would probably be a Britax Marathon or Boulevard. Many online stores are having their yearly Britax sale so you can get them really discounted right now. (www.babyage.com, www.babycatalog.com, www.babyuniverse.com and others) If you can't afford to get 2 Britax Marathons or Boulevards right now I would get a Britax for the car your son rides in most of the time, and a Cosco Scenera for the second car. The Scenera is on sale at Kmart right now for $35. it can be hard to install (you'll need a pool noodle under it to make it reclined enough) but other than that is easy to use and will last you as long as the Alpha 3in1 will. Since your son is only 3 months old don't worry about whether something turns into a booster. Odds are you'll never be able to use that feature because they are outgrown so quickly. I really recommend going to www.car-seat.org and posting on their free forums. Car seat technicians will recommend seats to you and will help you get a good fit in your car. I wish I knew about it when my daughter was first outgrowing her infant seat. We wasted hundreds of dollars on car seats that my daughter will outgrow in a few months (about when she'll turn three). We ended up having to a buy a Britax Marathon a few months ago, when we should have bought it in the first place! So in the long run, a Britax will actually save you money. Good luck! And definitely post on this forum, they'll help you so much. http://www.car-seat.org/
