My 5 month old is starting to outgrow his infant car seat. He weighs 17.5 oz, and is 27 1/4 inches long. I need to move on to the next car seat and have read the AAP website recommendations, but I need to know what specific brands, and models have worked best for you guys. Also, if anybody is selling one, I would like this information, as well.

I highly recommend the Britax Marathon. We have 3 of them. One for my husband's truck and 2 for my minivan (for both my boys). They are super safe and one of the best seats on the market. They are a bit pricy but you can find good deals on them on the internet.

I also will highly recommend the Britax. We have the Marathon and my son has been in it for about 2 1/2 years! He loved it the day we got it and still likes it so much better than the extra one we bought for his grandparents (it was a much cheaper seat but we quickly found out why it was so much cheaper)! I have had friends buy different kinds of seats that seemed great until they used them for a month or two and then after seeing our Britax ended up going and buying one on top of the seat they had already paid for! So I'd recommend buying the expensive Britax first! They also last for a long time as far as the weight and height for the kiddo! We have washed the cover many times in the washer and then hung it over night to dry! It is starting to look a little worn just recently but you can buy new covers to replace that since the seat will still last a while longer! You should also go to Babies R Us and try them out - you can see the difference in safety after hooking it into the actual seat from a car they have for you near the carseats! Hope this helps!

Britax is the best out there and I love mine. I just heard today that Target has Britax carseats on clearance as it is the last years model. They usually go for $200 and above but at target some people are finding it for less than $70. This is a steal. Also I found that it is cheaper to buy them online ( I used babyuniverse.com but if you google it you will find many comapnies that sell it.) and you get free shipping and no tax and it is cheaper than Babies r us.

WOW outgrowing infant carseat and not even 20 lbs yet. Growing like a weed huh:) I thought the infant carseat are up to 20 lbs. I have the Alpha Omega from Safety First which I LOVE. It goes up to 100 pounds I purchased it at Walmart for 60.00 this year right when my son was 11 months.

Good Luck!

wow sounds like your son is going to be tall!!! well i would recommend recaro young sport over the britax. simply the recaro will last you longer i believe it's up to 80lbs. my daughter loves hers. it's so comfy and has wings on the side of the head area that hold her head up when she sleeps. also it has the best ratings for safety especially for the side impact. it costs about 250. i bought mine from baby universe.com the shipping was not fast but not too slow. no tax and shipping was free! the young sport model also has the straps but eventuall can be used as a booster up till your child outgrows it which shouldn't be for a long time. like i said i believe 80lbs is the limit. hope this helps! Hi Victoria,
My son was a big one too and grew out of his infant carseat at 5 months. We ended up getting the Britax Marathon and love it! It is so easy to install, is very comfy and travels very well (we've taken several flights with it and have had no problems getting it into the airline seats). It's pricy but worth it. I did get my online way cheaper than babies r us then on top of that paid no tax or shipping. I'd do a search on www.mysimon.com and see's whose cheapest now.

Good luck.

I have purchased three Britax car seats 2 convertible and 1 booster. I love them they are the safest car seat out there. They are expensive, but I think the safeness is worth it. I bought my last one on ebay I paid half of retail price. I had the roundabout for my first one and the boulevard for my currrent one, I love it...Good Luck
