Since my 18 mth. old granddaughter has been on Nido Powdered Milk, she is constantly constipated. Can you please suggest an alternative milk to give her? Thank you

How about plain old cow's milk?

(And think "p" for constipation: pear juice, peaches, pears, peas, prunes.....)

Nido looks like it is nothing more than toddler formula, so why is she on it? Normally whole milk is just fine for a child at this age and then can go to 2% or 1% when they are two yrs old.

Cow's milk, soy milk, almond milk.
What does the doctor recommend?

Almond milk? Coconut milk? Rice milk? Has she tried any of these? If your grandaughter does not have any allergies these may be better options. Make homemade foods with lots of healthy fruits and veggies and really the constipation should start going away. Also try a probiotic for children. Ask your doctor if he.she recommends any.

Can't help you on the milk front, but our ped recommended apples, pears, stewed apricots, prunes and if need be a unflavored non gritty fiber supplement to help aleviate occassional constipation.

Cow's milk or goat's milk would be my suggestion. And if you can get certified raw milk, even better.

Abdominal massage is great for constipation; the main thing to remember is to always stroke CLOCKWIZE on the belly. You can probably Google techniques or ask a massage therapist for instruction. Using a feather-light touch won't get you anywhere so use some pressure, but use your best judgment and obviously don't bruise or push super hard.

Ask your ped if you can give her prunes (the Gerber baby food type).
Then ask him/her what he/she best recommends for a milk alternative.
Best of luck....soon!!
