Have you tried a bottle of water, or thinning out the formula with more wate? also when she's grunting try laying her on her back, raising her legs in the air and "Bicycle" her little legs...the movement distracts them, and i think it helps the tummy muscles relax to help pass the bowel....Good luck!

My daughter (now 9 mths) has been going through the same thing off and on since she was about 6 months old (when I stopped nursing and switched to Soy formula) - and I recently figured out why - I was mixing her bottles of formula too concentrated.

That is, I would put the 4 scoops of formula powder in the bottle (what the can says you need to make 8 oz) then add all the water it would hold - thereby (I thought) making 8 oz of formula. But that's not right! In order to make 8 oz of formula (or any amount) you have to start with that much water first and then add the formula to it - which ends up being a volume greater than just the 8 oz or whatever, but is a correct mixture. By not adding enough water, she was getting just a bit too much formula to water and was constipated all the time! We've adjusted our methods in the last 3 weeks and it has made ALL the difference!

If this doesn't help - Dark Karo Syrup in her bottles (my Ped told me to do this) - about a tsp per bottle - also helped her.

Good Luck!

Hi, my daughter was a huge issue when she was a few weeks old with digesting her food and with constipation. The pediatrician put her on Alimentum formula. It is broken down so its easier for her to digest it. Which helped with her constipation. It's a liitle more expensive($25) but worth it. Plus sometimes in between means she would have water. Hope this helps.

You can give her sugar water. Just use an ounce or so of warm water and a teaspoon full of sugar. If that doesn't help you should check with her doctor. I hope this works.

My son also was this way when he was only a few weeks old. His pediatrician had me try water, which didn' really work. So my sister in law told me to put a little caro syrup in the bottom of his bottle and it worked like magic. As he got older he still had this problem, so i would alternate between caro syrup and prune juice. Hope this help

I think that this is just all new for your baby. Remember that everything will calm down when you get into a routine. Have you tried mylacon drops that might make her tummy feel better they are gas drops so it may help if she is gassy and upset in that way! But also somethimes delivery is hard ob babies and it twists them and twists their vertebre and that may help (seeing a chiropractor) my daughter was about 8 weeks when I took her and it really seemed to help we went 2 times and everything was fine after that.
Hope this helps

The 1st thing i'd do is try putting some dark karo syrup in her bottle, also you can try taking her temp rectally. i've had to take a q-tip dipped in vaseline and kind of giggle it around in there to help my daughter go. i also found some infant laxatives at wal-mart...called little tummies. they work great, but my doc said to only use them as a last resort. you can also try apple, prune or pear juice.

Hello,
Have you ever asked the pediatrician about MSPI (milk soy protein intolerance)? My daughter had it and she was always wrentching until I put her on special formula Nutramigen (not the expensive stuff from the Dr. but it is a little more) it is a protein not derived from soy or milk proteins and easy to digest. That very week of switching to Nutramigen she was a new baby and felt great. I would talk to you Dr about it and or try the formula and see if it works. My daughter eventually grew out of it and now drinks whole milk. YIPPEE! Hope this helps,
H.

C.,

I would try just a little bit of Kairo syrup or just a little bit of pear or apple juice (diluted). It should work.

Good Luck

Have you tried any gas relief drops for infants? I gave them to Tyler and they worked? Call her pediatrican to make sure the best kind to use for her or ask if there is something they can give her. They sometimes have samples.

Hey C.. I'm a mother of 4 and grandmother of 3 and another grandchild on the way. When my infants became constipated, I would put a teaspoon of dark Karo syrup in about 6 oz.'s of their bottled milk. Shake it up really good. Not only do they like the taste, it softens their bowels so they can have a movement. Keep in mind, I'm not young. I do things the old fashioned way but it works. I hope little one can pass a good one and sleep for hours! But remember, it will take 2 or 3 bottle feedings to get results. If you need to , you can safely and slowly increase the amount of syrup but don't go overboard.Wish you the best!

I feel your pain. My daughter is going through the same thing (has been since she was born and is now 2). When she was on formula we tried the regular and it didn't work, we then went to soy which actually made it worse. Finally the doctors at Riley put her on Similiac Alemintuimn which is a hypo allerginic formula. It worked wonders. We also used suppositories, mineral oil, apple juice. You name it we have tried it. Of course check with your doctor before doing any of this. If you have any questions please e-mail me at ____@____.com I said we are still dealing with this and now are moving on to medical reasons. Hope I can help a little bit

Check with your pediatrician if you haven't already. The other thing is how often is she going? Sometimes my daughter would only go once a week when she was little. I'm sure there is something you can give her. Also if you have a what to expect the first year book check that. If you don't have one, get one. That book was a lifesaver for my first child.

My son was constitpated when he was a baby. Anytime he grunted or turned red due to trying to poop I would get some vaseline(Aquaforia)and gentley massage his bottom (you know where). Anyway it was gross, but it helped stimulate his bowls and it would come out a little easier. Otherwise he would try and hold it in and the it was unbearable to watch him be in pain. Good luck.
