My son constantly had hiccup while i was pregnate and didnt have any cord problems either,he just always had hiccups (that look painful for a baby) till he was about 6 months old... good luck ,everything should be fine!!!
I was recently talking with a g/f of mine and was joking around about how with this current pregnancy this lil' guy constantly has the hiccups. I was explaining how its pretty annoying especially at night. For instances, last night he woke me up with hiccups around 2am lasted about 15-20mins, then he had them again around 6am for about 10 mins, and then again @ 8ish for a couple of mins. & around 1:30pm for about 10 mins. I was telling here how it was wierd because it seems like it starts whenever I start tossing around trying to get comfortable or when I make a sudden change in position i.e lying to sitting or sitting to lying down. .
Anyway this girlfriend of mine said she read some research on the net and in a book by Dr.Jason H. Collins who said frequent hiccups that last for long periods (10-15 min) of time can be an indication of an issue with the umbilical cord & can cause stillbirths. Have any of you heard of this? Or is this just something else to make us worry?
The only reason I'm concerned was b/c towards the end of my 1st pregnancy I noticed my son started having more hiccups and I didn't think anything of it since I was always told it was a good thing. But he ended up having a really tight nuchal cord and they had to work on him a lil bit to get him going. It was really scary and I'm wondering if this new baby might also have a nuchal cord that could also be a problem. Any other mom's with baby's that had cord issue notice they had a lot of hiccups?

My first baby (now 12!) had many fetal hiccups. I was cronically dehydrated with her. I just didnt drink enough water. To this day, when she gets dehydrated she gets the hiccups. (she didnt have any cord issues)
Don't you think you really ought to ask your doctor?

hello! Im not sure that you will receive this as this thread is very old! how did everything turn out? Im not concerned about hiccups, however it seems like they're tied to my movement. he gets them when I sit or flip over in bed! please let me know! Thanks
Hi Amy,
I haven't heard of this before. I just had my second baby and he had constant hiccups in utero and now out as well :). No matter what I did, he would get them constantly. I wouldn't worry about the cord---mine had it wrapped around 2x and was just fine~ Also, he still hiccups constantly so maybe it just depends on the baby? If you are really concerned, talk with your doctor about this and maybe they can reassure you that everything is fine. Take care and enjoy your pregnancy!
