Constant Ear Infection Even W/ Tubes

I see that other moms have written recently on this same topic, so I'll join in, too: My 16-month-old daughter has had tubes for 6 months and got double ear infections about 3 weeks ago (her first since the tubes). The pediatrician we use is very into natural remedies, alternative therapies, etc., and even he put her on antibiotics because the infection was so bad. Well, the first round of antibiotics only worked on one ear. The second one became much worse, to the point where the external part of the ear became red, tender, and scaly. The pediatrician had me take her off milk in case that was causing problems. So on to round two of antibiotics (a different one this time). Her ear has improved a fair amount, but not completely, and the antibiotic course ends today. I just don't know what is causing this. She's been off milk for 10 days now...how would I know if that was the culprit? She'd been drinking milk for the last 4 months with no problem. What else can I do?

What can I do next?

L.,
Chiropratic care worked wonders for my kids!! They were scheduled to have tubes, adnoids and tonsils removed. We started taking them to the chiro and never had to have any surgery or anything. My youngest 2 have NEVER had an ear infection. I would give it a try-it may take a couple of times, but it is totally worth it. I am not sure where you live, but we go to a fantastic chiro in munster, in-Hofferth Family Chiropractic ###-###-####. FYI-I know many people get scared when you mention chiro-my doctor uses a computer to adjust you(not his hands like they used to do). The equipment is called Pro Adjsuter(I am sure you can google it and see all the info about it). I would probably only confuse you if I tried to explain how it worked in my own words ;) Good luck!!

Does your daughter wear ear plugs when bathing and swimming? 2 of my children both had tubes in their ears at the same time my cousins children did. My children wore ear plugs to keep the water out of their ears and my cousins children didn't. My children never had an infection in their ears the whole time they had their tubes but my cousins children had several. My ENT insisted on the ear plugs and I am glad that he did. My cousin's ENT said he doubted that that was the problem.
Just an idea. Good Luck!

Hello i am an alternative care practitioner as well-have you tried ear lavage?, Also you could try adding small doses of ecchinechea and Goldenseal to your childs formula. These are herbs that help ward off infection. there are others but I would speak with a natural care provider one to one before suggesting them so more info on your childs health could be provided. you could have your child take a food allergy pannel test

Also, and i don't know whay this works but it often does. Next time when she gets an infection, cut an onion in 1/2, heat it until warm, let it cool so it's not hot!!!!, then wrap it in a clean towel and hold it over her ear for 5 minutes OR Heat up the two tablespoons of olive oil. Grate or finely chop some onion and mince some garlic cloves.
Add two tablespoons of each to the pan. Add one tablespoon of water and fry lightly. Strain the fried onion and garlic into a jar or bottle.
Use a medicine dropper or eyedropper to put a few drops into the infected ear or place on a cotton ball and put that over the infected ear. Tilt your head or, preferably, lie down on your side for 15 minutes. Drain it out and then rinse your ear with water
Also you try chiropractic; we do an 'ear release' it helps to aide in drainage and prevent further occurances. You are more then welcomed to call me directly at ###-###-#### ask for Dr. Lex; we are located in Tinley park

Poor baby. Have you gone back to the ENT to make sure the tubes are open? My daughter had one tube working perfectly but the other had a "crust" that prevented the tube from doing its job. Good luck.

I'm so sorry to hear that you are dealing with this. Ear infections in little ones are no fun.
After my son got his first double ear infection, I started giving him a natural supplement called Nutriferon to boost his immune system. It's by a company called Shaklee and the formula for it is developed by the man who discovered interferon, which is the substance in your body that controls your immune system. He spent 40 years finding a combination of herbs that would naturally boost the body's production, because synthetic interferon which is often used for MS and cancer patients has some nasty side effects.
I break a tablet in half, crush it with a mortar and pestle, and put it in my sons formula.
When he had to be on antibiotics, I also gave him a probiotic to restore the good bacteria in his intestine. A significant portion of the immune system is actually located there.
You can find both of those things on the Shaklee website.
