Consigning/selling Clothing

I'm cleaning out closets (long overdue). I have tons of clothes - mine and my girls' - that I would like to sell/consign. Where's the best place to take them? I've heard horror stories about some of the children's resale shops giving you a pittance for good-quality clothes, and would rather not go to those places. I'd like to hear your successful sale/consignment experiences with stores, *and* the nightmare stories so I'll know the places to avoid!

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I like Cutie Patootie Kids (decent money back) and do the instore credit b/c you get more. As for adults clothes, my Mom had tons of them with price tags still attached...she took them to several places and nothing. She ended up donating. So unless you are going to have a garage sale I think you aren't going to get what you want for the adult clothes. Better off donating them to a woman's shelter such as Genesis Women's Shelter in Dallas and taking the tax write off.

No where is going to give you good money. I have used Kid to Kid and they are ok if you take the store credit option. If you really want any where close to what your clothes are worth try an event such as Divine Consign. It is work on your part, but it will pay off in the end. As for adult clothing, unless they are designer labels you won't find anywhere to take them. I had some good quality clothes from stores like Anne Taylor, Limited, etc, and could not sell them. I ended up donating them all.

If you can wait until September then I would suggest selling at Sweet Repeats Consignment sale in Mckinney. It's put on by Trinity Presbyterian MOPS group. you can look at the website www.sweetrepeatsmckinney.org and all of the directions/info is there. What's cool is that if you volunteer at set-up (3 hours) then you keep 70% of what your items sell for if you don't volunteer then you keep 60% I personally think it's well worth the wait. I've sold twice and have been very successful. Alot of moms make well over $150. So take a look!!

For adult clothes, try the Buffalo Exchange. I think they're on Greenville Ave. They only take casual/funky stuff no business attire. You're not going to get a whole lot of cash from consigning but you can make good exchanges sometimes. You can try selling on Ebay.

Kid to Kid in Allen was a total rip-off (they counted the clothes wrong...they were off by like 12 or so and they quoted me a dollar over the phone and offered much less in person...I was called a liar when I mentioned that I was told a $1 over the phone...she refused to tell me how she added up the price for the clothes and she gave me an ultimatum of she takes all or nothing...bad...bad business if you ask me). I was really disappointed too because they seemed like such nice ladies.

So a neighbor and I had a garage sale and I got way more than the consignment shop offered me for the clothes. I also know of a consignment shop that you can ship your clothes to. If she doesn't buy them she will either ship them back or donate them to charity, which ever you prefer. She is super nice. April Harpole ____@____.com
