Sorry this is going to be long ... I have two children from my first marriage that are 13 & 9 and I had my tubes tied in 1999 after my 2nd was born. Then when I remarried last year we knew we wanted to have children together. I had a Tubal Reversal (instead of IVF) on March 15th of this year and I am thrilled to say that we were pregnant by May!! I am expecting a baby girl on February 6th. While we were able to get pregnant quickly the process for the tubal reversal was much much longer.
I would recommend Dr. Barnett at Presby of Plano and Dr. Robert Kaufmann in Ft. Worth (feel free to email me for their contact info). Getting into both DRs for the first appointment takes a while, but once you are a patient you can get in sooner.
Here is how the process went for me ... I saw Dr. Barnett at Presby Plano and there were several tests that had to be done for me and my husband before the surgery was considered an option. I had blood work done of course, a dye test to see if I had enough fallopian tube to use for the reversal and I believe another test (but I can't remember exactly). I was lucky that I had a "Band" placed around my fallopian tube instead of having them cut & burned when they were tied. This greatly increased my chances of having the reversal. My husband had to have a semen analysis since he had not fathered any children yet. Once the DR got all the results in we had a meeting with him to discuss which route we wanted to take ... Reversal or IVF. For us we hope to have at least 2 children together, so IVF would be a costly option to go with first and can end with multiple births (which we didn't want either). The reversal route is not covered by insurance either, but if the surgery is successful you only have to pay for it once and the surgery is less expensive then one IVF treatment. Once we decided to go with the reversal Dr. Barnett refered us to Dr. Kaufmann who could preform the surgery in Ft. Worth at a lower hospital fee. We met with Dr. Kaufmann and booked the surgery ... which was a success. The recovery time from the surgery was a bit longer then I expected ... about 2 weeks for me. We were warned that there would be an increased chance of a tubal pregnancy with the tubal reversal.
I would be happy to give you the info for the DRs and help all that I can.
Good Luck!
