Our insurance (car and homeowner's together) recently went up by $200/year! I'm considering switching to GEICO. Anyone have any experience with GEICO, good or bad. I'd love to hear what you have to say. Thanks!

What can I do next?

DON'T DO IT!!!!

Sorry for yelling but they are the devil!!!

They were awful to me, one of my coworkers they tried to make her go after the uninsured motorist before they would pay the claim on her two month old car! Then after they made her jump through hoops they wouldn't give her what the car was worth.

Okay so the idea that all insurance companies have the same issues, nope, sorry. I have had State Farm, they paid claims without being jerks about it. I left them because they were raising prices to make up for loses in other areas. To me that is an actuary with a bad idea not a customer service issue. I now am with Liberty Mutual, everything is great, I have had them for three years and two claims. They are great and have tons of discounts.

I'm an independent agent in AZ. I have many companies I'm contracted with so I can "shop" to find the best rate for the best coverage. I have had MANY complaints from clients who have switched to Geico. Their reps over the phone conveniently quote minimum coverage, which of course, is less premium. So it *looks* like they are cheaper, but its less coverage. People don't know until its too late and they have a claim. So unless you are checking closely and getting the quote in writing so you can SEE what they are quoting, I would pass. Let me know if you need help or find a local agent in your area that is independent and can shop around for you. Good luck.

Wow, our experience was totally different than Jo W's (below). We have been with GEICO for years. Husband has hit a deer (couple thousand in repairs, done with no problem including a rental during the repair period); had a cracked windshield twice (rocks being thrown on the highway) and they sent out a repair company to repair it at our home both times, right away; and about 2 years ago was hit head on by an uninsured driver. They paid for all the repairs and a rental for the 3 weeks or so it took to get the repairs done. Total damage to my husband's car was in the neighborhood of $7,000... and when the body shop had some delays getting in the needed parts (Mazda is notorious for being slow to provide them) we didn't have to do anything but call them for them to extend the rental for my husband. He was IN the rental about 3 hours after the accident occurred, and they also paid (in full) husband's doctor visit to get checked out, AND they reimbursed him for some missed work due to the accident. To my knowledge they still haven't gotten any $ from the person who caused the accident, but since we had uninsured motorist coverage, our deductible was dropped to $250. It was a pain, all in all, but not because of Geico. THEY were GREAT.

I have had Geico for many years and have never had a problem. I haven't had an accident in 12 years, but when I was a 17/18 years old I had a couple of accidents and they were great. Got my car fixed immediately - had someone look at the damage and they cut me a check right then and there. They were going to raise our rates this year, but my husband called them and explained that we have been with them many years and we have had no accidents or claims of any kind. We were aiming for just keeping the same rate, but they ended up lowering it for us.

We've used them for car insurance for quite a few years now. Good service, good prices. You can do just about anything online, which I like. I have nothing negative to report about them. They've always been good to us.

I would find a good independent agent in your area. They do lots of research and find great deals. You might even get a better deal than Geico.

We had them, then didn't, now we have them again. Their rates are great & their claim service seems good.

You're going to get answers on this that are all across the board, and I'm guessing you'd get the same type of response for any insurance company, honestly.

When we got married, we asked both our companies to quote us for the same list of insured cars, etc. Nationwide was way more than GEICO. We have had GEICO ever since. If you don't need a personal agent and don't tend to get into trouble on the road (not a lot of accidents), then it should be fine. We have not had any problems. I was rear ended coming home one night and they fixed my car and replaced our car seat without a lot of hassle. Remember that insurance companies, all of them - medical, home, car, etc. - are for profit businesses. Stay with them while they benefit you, stand up for yourself when you need to, and move on when you are tired of their nonsense.

FWIW, if you or a family member has served in the military, you should look into USAA.

I've never had a problem with Geico. My cars have always been insured by them. I think its been 8 years since I've been with Geico/had a car insured. I've never experienced any other companies so I have nothing to compare to. I will say; when I needed my windshield replaced I did have to pay the $100 deductible. I was in a car crash (hit on my side T-boned I think as they call it) and they took care of things. I had no problem. It sure did cost a lot of money on the other side (the person who hit me). I think the damages were over $10,000. Anyhow, they have always been friendly on the phone. I can reach them at any hour of the day or night. They are more than willing to help and answer questions. They even answered questions I felt stupid about asking! Also; the web site is great. It is easy to pay online. I have 4 monthly payments 2x a year. I wish though; they would lower the prices more each year that you aren't in a car crash. The amount of money I pay sure does help if anything terrible happened. The coverage is great. I don't think I've had a bad experience at all. They always helped when my car was hit and offered advice on where to take the car.

Hope you do make the switch!!!!!
Good luck!
