Do you have a 10-12 year old boy in your neighborhood?
Because they are all tech wizards!
And they'll work for baked goods! 😜
(I'm serious!)

What exactly needs "set up"?
Software installed?
Browser preferences?
Or do you have a network?

Still say your best bet is a kid.

Many new computers are out-of-box ready, so as long as you can plug in cords and follow the written directions on the Quick Start Up sheet, you should be able to do it yourself.

You should just be able to plug it in and turn it on. If not, grab a kid. My 6 year old daughter (now 11) set up my mom's computer for her.

Welcome to mamapedia!!

Most new computers don't need to be "set up" - they just need to be plugged in and go.

If you bought it from Best Buy or HP? They USUALLY have something like a "Geek Squad" or "Computer Geeks", etc.

Good luck!

Is it a desktop or laptop?

Contact the Geek Squad at Best Buy.. they come to your home.

My laptop is by Dell and my service contract provided set up help which was basically loading new software on it and following the set up wizard.

Staples also has a computer team that is helpful. I've only used Dell for my service but hubby has used both Geek Squad and Staples with good results.

Last resort... do you know any teens that are techy that will help you out?

Good luck.

What is it that you need? Software installation, or someone to physically set up the equipment, connect the cables, set up the printer?

There should be customer support (on line or by phone) from the company from whom you bought the computer.

You can also use the Geek Squad through Best Buy as someone mentioned.

Our high school has a social service club that does a number of things for the community while giving kids experience to put on their "activity resumes" for college. Sometimes they do computer set-ups for people who are technologically challenged. Call the Guidance Office and ask if there is such a club, and who the advisor is. Sometimes the Guidance Office posts one-shot jobs or ongoing ones for interested students. If there's a college near you, you could see if they have a job board too.

Good luck!
