Good morning. Last week my brother in law's brother passed away unexpectedly. The family is doing a memorial service in Illinois (the burial was private in another state). His brother has no church affilitation (nor does the rest of the family). He was a science teacher and a nature lover....siblings (and he) live in the western suburbs (we're approx 40 miles west of Chicago). They are looking for a community center or nature center to hold the memorial. It needs to have an indoor facility that they can use. People will be coming from all around so I'm open to any suggestions in any area. Thank you so much!

What can I do next?

A coworker of mine got married recently at Starved Rock; there is a lodge and an inn. The lodge has a conference center, we were there.

Try the Morton Arboretum in Lisle. It is huge, gorgeous, and I am sure there is indoor facilities because weddings are held there. I hope this helps. My thoughts and prayers are with you. My sister-in-law died very unexpectedly 4 months ago. I know how hard this must be for you and your family. Take care.

What about checking into a park? Many of them have buildings that they rent out for parties and such...........a park we love has a building with a fireplace and it looks out over the nature area that they have created.....it's really nice............
I would try a park or community center and see what you might find......maybe even a golf course, sometimes they have places for weddings and have buildings out of the way............

You might check with non for profits as well......they may rent out......look at places that have weddings......or even funerals..........

Good Luck and I'm sorry to hear about your friend.........it's always tough......take care.

This might seem strange since your talking about a memorial service, but you might try to call a party planner in the area. They will be the most familiar with the local facilities.

Hi H.,
We had a nice visit at the Peck Farm Park in Geneva, IL. It's like Coseley Zoo with the emphasis on the butterfly house, old farm house, nature trails, a silo to observe the life on the lake, and a small private building. It is small but full of natural things to look at and it's free. I wasn't landing a big party of people there,so I hope this mights be a lead. It is worth it to see the butterfly house en route to the private building. The animals are amazing and the transformation idea might work.

What about contacting a non-denomination church (Unitarian?) or a community college? They sometimes rent out rooms for groups.
