Has anyone ever used this before? My mother is all about the alternative medicines (I think a drug is a drug), and she wants me to try it on my son. I couldn't find much info on the net, so I was hoping someone here might have a personal expirience to share.

Thanks again. As always, ya'll are amazing.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I should have been more specific. :) My mother wants him to take it to help prevent him from having pneumonia so often (bacterial and/or viral). But even with all my research I can't find any information on using it orally with children. AND, since no one else on here has no info either, I am going against it and (GASP) against my mother. lol. Thanks everyone. :)

Updated again.

I really appriciate all the info. I now have a few more places, and things, to research, and I'm sure we will be able to find something that will help him without adding other things to worry about.

I don't eactly know what she wants you to use it on him for, but it works for my skin. I go every two weeks for a treatment because I have chapped skin. It takes it away. As far as ingesting it, I would sincerelly ask your child's physician before doing anything like that.

S.,

I am also into alternative, and holistic approaches to medical care whenever possible. However, I was taking colloidal silver a couple of years ago whenever I started to feel ill, or show symptoms of a cold. I thought it worked pretty well until I saw a special on 20/20 regarding homoepathic remedies. One of the interviews was with a woman who had consumed colloidal silver for several years, and according to her it made her go completely gray. She was not very old, perhaps mid 30's, and she was indeed completely gray. According to this investigative report, the body is not always able to process the silver and pass it normally and sometimes it comes out via dead cells - hence the hair. It was enough to make me stop taking it, and I have not given to my children since. Definately do some more research on that one.
On another note, I have found some promising findings on Omega 3 supplements for children. I have started giving this to my two boys, and they are definately calmer and more focused. A lot of studies are being conducted to look at lack of Omega 3 in children's diets and the link that has to hyperactivity, increased rates of illness and low tests scores. Worth investigating further.

S., please don't discard something just because you haven't found enough information on it. There's plenty of information on alternative therapies for adults, children, pets, what-have you, you just need a little patience to find it. Colloidal Silver is great for fighting persistant infections, in fact, it is called by many a "hospital in a bottle". That being said, not all CS is the same. Many people try to make it at home without knowing exactly what they are doing and hence create a less than pure or useful product. It is the overuse of these kinds of products that will give bad results. Health food and online stores sell pure quality bottles of Colloidal Silver that you can take and give your child without turning him into a silver dollar :-)
Besides CS, there are many different natural approaches to boosting the immune system, but it is never wise to just rely on any one thing. A proper diet which restricts white flours, processed foods and sugar, plus adding plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables is a major start. You can give your child pediatric formulations of Echinacea and Golden Seal, along with lots of vitamin C. There are many other approaches that combined will strengthn and heal your child.
Here is a link to a huge alternatives website which will answer many of your questions (you can even ask one yourself and you'll get an answer)and you will also read about many other useful things that will be new to you.

It is good that you are being very cautious about what you administer to you child, but in doing so, make sure you're not,.....ahem,..er, throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Your Mom means well, she is probably concerned about the amounts of antibiotics that her grandchild has been taking and for good reason. It is much better to strengthen the body naturally than to load it with medications after it has become sick.
Oh, and please don't pay too much attention to Quackwatch. There are high rewards for coming against alternatives, but besides that, they were taken to court not too long ago and they were found to be greater quacks than the people they try to smear. So just proceed with caution and read, read, read!

Hu S.,
Yes I use colloidal Silver and have known many who have. It is good and very effective. I use it for infections, colds and flu but others I know use it for stronger repair.
It is NOT a drug!! A drug is chemical with side effects and I can relate to you avoiding them. In order for something to be approved by the FDA as a drug first they have to show its LD50. Which is when it kills. Hipprocrates, the Father of conventional medicine, said "All drugs must be poision". Yep, you heard right. They are are all poisions. When opeople hear FDA approved they relax and sat ut us safe when actually the opposite is so.
Alternative remedies are a while different animal. They are not poisions. You need to know what you are doing when you use them but they are not poisions and the side effects generally are actually benefits.

I am on the fence with this, as a person who alway had pnemonia every fall and spring as a child...it was not so fun. But my parents are both medical, so they knew what to do. I tend to follow traditional medicine, but don't rule out holistic ideas as this was the only kind of medicine long ago. And somethings do work...honey from flowers that are in season from your area can reduce allergies to pollen. I think if your ped (who you trust?) suggests the shot (which has been successful) then leave it at that. You know what you are doing so good luck! Jen...where is lehigh?
