Best bet is to talk w/your pediatricians office and ask to speak w/their nutritionist. Since your son's allergies are so high to nuts, I wouldn't take a chance.

Hi, can anyone tell me if coconuts are considered a nut? I've been keeping coconuts away from my son due to the fact that he has anaphylaxis to all nuts because no one can tell me if it is a nut or a fruit. Thanks
A.
Thanks everyone for their response...I will speak with his pediatrician...sounds like a plan! I'll keep you all posted!

Hi A.-
I think the best thing to do would be to speak with your son's pediatrician or allergist if he has one. You could also do some research online as well. I came across these websites about nut allergies. They do speak of coconut and nut allergies. Hope they help.

Coconuts are not true nuts, but are drupes. I read on several web sites that people with nut allergies do have allergies to coconut, but not all. You could have the allergist test specifically for it.

Botanically, a coconut is a simple dry fruit known as a fibrous drupe (not a true nut).
This is from Wikapedia the online Encyclopedia, it is a great resource for just about anything!!
Good Luck!

Hi,
A coconut is a nut. But I would ask your doctor if it causes the same reactions. I have only heard of people having a problem with the oil.

My dr. gave me a list of what not to give my son as an infant and I remember Coconuts were on that list.
