I am moving to a new house and it's close to a public pool and I am wanting to take my 5 month old son swimming as much as possible during the summer. So I'm not wanting to spend a fortune on the disposable ones, does anyone have a good brand to suggest??

Go to a swim shop, or call a place that offers swim lessons. Most prefer, and/or require the reusable diapers. And most will let you try them on to get the right fit too. These are the complete diaper, you don't need anything more than the swim diaper (no covers, etc.) Just be aware that they are not water resistant. In other words, if you put them in the swim diaper, and load them into the car, and they pee on the way....wet carseat. Yes, that is from experience. :) The point of them is just to keep the solids contained. I have also bought the ones at onestepahead, and at 5 months, I think that the diaper designed ones are easier to take on and off than the pull up ones.

I got a whole matching set from Babies R Us. It was swim trunks with a built-in swim diaper, matching u/v protection shirt and hat!

most infant sized swim trunks have a swim diaper built in. It's like a vinyl underwear thing with tight-ish elastic around the legs. When my son was an infant (and still) we swam almost every day in the summer. I found that the cloth were MUCH better at actually containing all the "stuff" than disposables. Just make sure you're prepared for it when you pull them off!

Target sells a whole line of very nice swim stuff (usually on an endcap or on one of those stand alone displays in the baby section. They sell swim diapers/suits, sun shield hats, shirts, sunglasses etc.

Good luck and have fun!

I've gotten them from Target and Babies R Us. Both were good. This year I'll probably order some from onestepahead.com because I think those are cuter.
Since you're going to be swimming I suggest you check into the ISR program (infantswim.com), my son did it last summer and will be doing it this summer as well.

Sorry, I don't know the brand, but the swim diapers/suits they sell on www.onestepahead.com are good ones. We had one of them for our daughter when she was small and it worked great.

My son used Imse Vimse, I just purchased an IPlay for my daugher. I love them both and think they are a great investment. I am impressed so far with the IPlay as it does have a small absorbant layer to catch any pee pees that may happen at the side of the pool (swim diapers are only designed to catch the poop chlorine is supposed to do the rest). Check your local consignment shop as I found my daughters 26.00 retail suit for 3.50 and it looks band new at this age the out grow them before they are able to wear them out.

I don't know anything about cloth swim diapers, but wanted to suggest that you check with the public pool that you are going to and make sure that they are okay with them and what their "rules" are on that. Most public pools also require plastic pants too for infants.

Hi Meg and Ollie!

I literally just finished listing a set of swim diapers (girls bikini size L 18M) on eBay and will be listing others tonight and tomorrow. These are for girls but I have size small (6m 12 to 18 lbs) and medium (18 to 22 pounds) for boys, I'm just not sure how many since I haven't unpacked everything yet -- pretty sure I'll have large size also--bought them at ToysRUs last year to sell this year. Anyway, take a look at the little girls one and if you are interested in the boys version, let me know and I will email you when it's listed.

I try to make my prices affordable and though I'm not positive, I think one swim diaper cover would be about $5 with $2 shipping. Hope you're having a good night....watching them learn the water is wonderful and amazing -- he's the perfect age! Year round swimming is the ONLY thing I miss about S. FL! M.

Spring for the disposable ones - most public pools require those, because they are sure to hold in any feces. Cloth ones don't really do that. It's a health-regualtion and they can get closed down if there is contamination. Check with the pool just to be sure, they can let you know if there are any reusable swim diapers they will allow, but be prepared for them to say no.

We used cloth diapers, so we naturally used cloth swim diapers too. I bought the ones from Target, also had two from One Step Ahead, and one from Babies R Us. All worked great, and all are reasonably priced. They hold up well too, I used them for two kids and they were still in great shape, and passed them along to my friend for her little boy.
