Cloth Diapers for a Giant Baby

I am transitioning over to cloth diapers, but my son is huge! He's 26 lbs and only 7 months. I know he'll slow down with the gaining as he starts being mobile, but I'm still worried that he is going to outgrow the large sizes. So do you know of any that go beyond 30-35lbs? I'm in Thirsties Duo and I like them, but I want to try the snaps not the velcro. I also have used Air Biscuit's and I LOVE them, but I'm not sure they will last all to long (THEY ARE AMAZING DIAPERS btw) Also what are some good diaper rash creams for cloth? Currently I'm using Boudreaux's Original Butt Paste with the disposable diapers since he is on amoxacilline and is a bit runny and he is super rashy!

What can I do next?

Hmm...most diapers I know only go up to 35 lbs. I would recommend hitting up theclothdiaperwhisperer.com to see if they've ever covered it in their blog. You might also try looking on diaperswappers.com or diaperpin.com. They might have some recommendations for larger sized diapers.
You shouldn't need any kind of cream with cloth diapers. Most of the time diaper rashes are non-existent in cloth. You won't be able to use things like butt paste or desitin with cloth. It can't be washed away and your diapers will start to repel. A lot of the cloth diapering moms I know will buy the flushable liners if they have to use cream. There are also some cloth diaper safe creams. Check out kellyscloset.com for some ideas.
Congrats on making the switch :)

I am not sure on the cloth diapers, I use the plain white cotton with pins and cover and disposables and plus my baby is tiny. So sorry I am no help there but a great 'all natural' diaper ointment that is good with cloth is Grandma El's. It is a bit pricey but a little goes a long way! Good Luck!

We use Happy Heinys one size and my 34 pound 2 1/2 year old stillwears them. There are a lot of one sized pockets out there that will probably fit and I know some companies sell toddler sized diapers.

We use Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm or just plain calendula for rashes and they don't seem to harm the cloth.

Make sure you pick an appropriate detergent too...All Free and Clear is an easy one, although there are a ton of good detergents for CD'ing out there.

Here are a couple of good links:

The Real Diaper Association has good info too...http://www.realdiaperassociation.org/

Good luck and welcome to the world of cloth! I love it....by the way if you're not squeamish about used, check Craigslist. You will get great deals on diapers.

I would go to www.kangacare.com and check those out. They are called rump a rooz and they are so cute. I don't cloth diaper but my sister does and Julie is the owner of rump a rooz and is fantastic.
Also, my nieces are both cloth diapered and they have had HORRIBLE rashes and they go away when my sister puts disposables on so yes, babies who are ONLY cloth diapered do get rashes.

Take a look at Fuzzi Bunz size L or XL. My guy was huge too, and the L's fit a little large on him at 25#, but they still fit for night time at 40#! As he got bigger I had to replace the microfiber inserts with hemp inserts as the liquid load increased. good luck!

P.S. You'd have to switch diaper ointments with the cloth - just look up cloth-friendly rash creams in the web - you'll find lots of choices.

I don't know about larger cloth diapers for your son. I have huge kids too and always ended up pushing the potty training at 2 because I couldn't get bigger diapers. As far as the diaper rash creams, Bordeauxs is the best by far. I bet you will find that if he is consistently in cloth the diaper rash gets better. You also might want to check with the doc, he may be getting yeast infections and not have diaper rash at all, in which case you can use Lotrimin or something like that to get rid of it.

Good luck!
