I have a 4 week old baby and have been thinking about using cloth diapers. I am wondering if anyone has used them, your experiences, the brands that you liked the best and why (there are so many out there now), and where you bought. Thanks

What can I do next?

I haven't personally used them, but I know that Luna Blue Baby Boutique in Gilbert sells them. They are located at Val Vista and Williamsfield.

I know they do a workshop once a month to learn more about cloth diapers. Her website is: http://www.lunablueaz.com/

I love, love, love cloth and those plasticky, chemical lined and filled disposables are really gross to me.

Best thing is the gobs of money I save(d) using cloth ! Holy cow. Yeah, the environment and cotton next to my baby's skin is awesome too.

It's so easy to do them. The washer and dryer do all the work !

I used them both on my first baby. He's now potty trained and I am using the same ones on my 2nd baby ! Isn't that cool ?!

I like the DSQ diapers. It is so easy to do them at home, I just washed them myself.

I bought mine off Ebay and I like the DSQ Chinese prefolds. They are so thick and absorbent. It is all I ever used.

If you do decide to use cloth diapers and want the DSQ diapers, I have some like new, DSQ Chinese Cloth newborn and infant size diapers. I also have some brand new-never used (I bought more than I needed) medium sized DSQ Chinese prefolds.

I had a diaper service that I LOVED! It was only 12.50 per week and they use no chemicals. They are called Bare Care Diaper Service. My kids never had diaper rash or any of that. Good luck and thanks for using cloth!

Cloth Diapers are great, they are easy to use, we have used a few different brands but the best one for us is knickernappies one size. Then at night my boy is a heavy wetter we found the best solution was a drybees fleece night time pocket diaper double stuff. Never had a leak since then. We use a bummis bio-soft liners, they are biodegadable and flushable, they are cheap and making cleaning a breeze. We bought our diapers from For Baby And Me Online in Gilbert. www.forbabyandmeonline.com they also have a info. site to help out if you are new to cloth diapering. www.forbabyandmeonline.info You also have to check out the reusable swim diapers, Bummis has a great one!

Wow this brings back a lot of memories from when cloth diapers were the only choice. That would be 1966-1972. I had three children in cloth diapers and the toilet always had a poopie one soaking in it. My husband would change a baby but wouldn't rinse, flush and wring out the soiled ones. Then there were the rubber pants to put over them because they never held enough liquid and the terrible diaper rashes that caused. And the ammonia smell was overpowering. Also stuck a baby with the diaper pin every once in a while, not on purpose but because the folded material was hard to poke through. I diaper my grandkids now and I'm amazed at the ease and cleanliness of the products available today. Wish I had had them in my day. I don't know if they have improved cloth diapers since my kids were young but I can't imagine how. The only good thing about them was that when they were old and very soft you could use them for those intimate times with your husband, or as dust rags.

Hi A.! I just went to a baby shower for my niece last week, and I learned about a whole new type of earth friendly diaper you might want to check out. When our boys were small, we used a diaper service that provided fresh clean cloth diapers at the door, and then picked up the dirty ones, but I understand that there aren't any in Arizona.

Anyway, the diapers are called G Diapers. You can find them at Whole Foods and learn more about them at wwww.gdiapers.com. My niece did quite a bit of research and it sounds like a neat idea. Kind of a the best of both worlds - a disposable diaper that's earth friendly, and baby butt friendly.

Best of luck!

I love, love, love cloth diapering. It is sooo great to know that I am not putting so much into the land fill and my daughters bum doesn't break out from being all sweaty in a disposable. I love the all in one diapers but they are a little expensive and tend to run a little small in size. I order mine from Comfy Bummy .com. They have loads of info, videos that show how to use the product and offer discounts. They are very affordably priced. I wound up using a diaper with a double sewn into it and loved it as well. Try buying one or two of the ones you are interested in and see wich one you like. Good Luck!

I love the Bum Genius Brand. They remind me of disposables. They have the eas of disposables It is an all in one Diaper with velcro sides like a Disposable. I just slap it on him and go. The only difference from these and disposables is I wash and reuse them. My Baby is not sitting in paper diapers with all those chemicalls. I couldn't be happier with my decision to use cloth. As much as I like these I will be looking for some cloth with sides that snap. My little guy is at the age where we can undo the velco.

I use cloth and I love it! So many people said I wouldn't be able to do it but it is very easy and I can't imagine how much money we would be spending if we did disposables only! I do use the disposables when we go out somewhere just so I don't have to carry around a dirty one but otherwise its cloth! I went to the soft cloth bunz website and got some plastic pants from them and they are super easy to use. Check out their website because there is a ton of info on there for cloth diapering in general and you can get the actual diapers at target etc. I prefer the "bummi whisper wraps" because they have a velcro closure and you don't even need pins! You just fold the diaper, pop it in and velcro it shut! Buy more than one so you can rotate them and keep them clean. If you need any info that you can't find on the website, send me a message! Best of luck to you! -Sara

LOVE CLOTH DIAPERS! I got into them because they are cheaper than disposibles, but I also like that I'm being friendly to the environment, too! :-) I don't know Meredith from Go Go Natural (from an earlier post), but I've ordered most of my diapers from Wildflower Diapers, and also went to their workshop--which I highly recommend! The world of cloth diapers can be very overwhelming, and going to that workshop really helped explain the differences between all the different types and brands. Just go to wildflowerdiapers.com to find out info about them and the next workshop. I like pocket diapers the best (BumGenius Onesize are my favorites) because they fit my baby well, and you can stuff them to the absorbancy that you need. Congrats on your baby and on learning about cloth diapers!! They are REALLY easy to use and wash once you get a routine going. (And I'm a working mom!) Hope all of this helps!

Hi A.,

Congratulations on the new baby. I have a 4 month old son and I use both cloth and disposable diapers. He has gotten into a pooping schedule which helps me put on the cloth diapers just after he poops in the morning. Before using them he had gotten rashes a couple times, but after we started using the cloth diapers which helps air out his bottom, his rash never came back.

I use the Gerber brand which is very absorbant. They are available cheapest at Walmart I think. If you are in close quarters and will be able to check when he pees, you will not even have to use the vinyl pants on this brand. I have not used anything else, so will not be able to give a comparison study.

For those times when he poops in them, I used to wash the solids out into the toilet which was messy. Now I use the wet wipes and wipe off the solids and simply rinse them by hand with a little detergent (Dreft) and then launder them with the rest of the load. Using a little vinegar and borax along with the detergent takes away the stains and the entire load comes out fresh smelling.

Hope this has been helpful.

Good luck with the babies.

I use Bum Genius OS pockets and really like them. Unfortunately, because of daycare, I use disposables too. A good resource to read up on what people like/dislike is the Yahoo group az-cloth-diapering, as well as a good forum to ask your questions and get used diapers.

i love my cloth diapers. i have prefolds and bumgenius 3.0's and i've recently started making KCK One's.

you can get the first two locally at Go Go Natural (gogonatural.com) or wildflower diapers (wildflowerdiapers.com)

those are both mom based businesses. Meredith from GoGo Natural operates out of her home in chandler but she's having a baby sometime this week i think. Otherwise you can make an appointment to go see all the different kinds of diapers she has.

similarly, wildflower diapers in scottsdale has a workshop once a month on saturdays where they teach you about all the different kinds of materials, diaper types, costs, etc.

both places are awesome. Let me know if you have any questions about ours!

I used cloth with my daughter (who is now a teen) and it was great. You can either wash them yourself or use a diaper service. At least there used to be diaper services!

I had sets of cloth diapers and cloth diaper covers, which had velcro tabs, so it was easy to change her. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of brand of covers I used, but I'm sure there are so very many more brands and styles out today than there were then.

I used cloth all the time except on long plane trips. I found it wasn't a big deal to use cloth away from home. Once you use cloth, you will hate the smell and feel of disposable diapers.
