ZIP LOCK BAGS! Get the gallon size. That an get expensive, though, so alternately you could carry around a stash of those produce bags from the grocery store- just remember to tie a good knot in the top when you're done.

I have a waterproof drawstring bag by bummis (I think). I use flushable liners, so I can get rid of the poop, then stick the wet diaper in the bag.

I use a plastic zippered bag that some bedding came in. It’s a heavy plastic that closes tight and b/c it has a real zipper in it its not completely air tight so after I zip it up I can roll it up from the bottom to push out the extra air that way it doesn’t take up a ton of space in my diaper bag. The best part, it was free!!

Gerbers e-z liners are these little liners for inside the cloth diaper. I used them when I went out. If the baby poops you just throw the liner away and then put the soiled diaper in your dirty diaper bag - I really like the idea of the washable type.

I use cloth diapers (Bumgenius) and love them. I purchased a couple of wetbags from http://www.happytushies.com. They have lots of great designs and they are easy to use. I try to keep one in the car at all times because I only use cloth during the day (sometimes I use 7th generation disposables at night). The wetbags work great--I notice little smell from them if I zip them up. I have even used them for wet bathing suits, etc. I just throw them in the wash right along with the diapers.

They make wetbags that are designed for storing wet cloth diapers. Any cloth diaper website should carry them. Sometimes I just use recycled plastic grocery bags, which work great for keeping the moisture and smell in, and put it in the diaper bag til I get home.

I have always used a grocery or ziploc bag but now that my 4th is 8 months old and #3 is 2 and still using diapers as well we just bought Happy Tushies wetbags, www.happytushies.com you can custom order from them or check out their retailers that carry a selection each in unique fabrics. Their new wonderbag with two compartments is especially nice.

My friend keeps a couple of empty cereal bags and rubber bands handy to wrap up dirties... they're super-strong, it's great re-use and asking just a couple of friends to keep theirs for you is more eco-friendly than buying Ziplocs. I'm lucky... we've had so few poopy diapers thanks to ECing. I carry completely assembled Bummis SuperWhisperWrap diapers (diaper, doubler and all) and then take advantage of the velcro strips to wrap the removed wet one into a little ball (just like you can with disposables). It isn't completely smell-free but it keeps the wetness contained. When I get home I separate the doubler and diaper from the cover so it has a chance to air out before they all go into the wash. I applaud your comittment to cloth diapering on-the-go... it's amazing how in just one generation so many folks have completely abandoned what used to be a typical part of mothering.

I just keep a gallon size ziplock in my diaper bag for bringing home the dirty ones. Then, if I am out and have forgotten a ziplock, usually the friend's house will have one. (or a store will have some form of plastic bag.) I didn't buy anything extra, and I reuse the ziplocs, for dirty diapers of course! Just empty the dirties into the hamper when you get home and stick the ziplock back in your diaper bag for next time. Another plus of the ziplock is getting to seal it up and not smell them :)

When my daughter was a baby, they had these wonderful things called "Nappie Sacks". They were basically plastic bags that were scented to put the "nappies" in. Produce bags from the grocery store do the same trick, but without the odor control. Just tie them securely into a plastic bag, keep them out of the heat if at all possible, and then deal with the diapers the second you get home. It's really the only way to travel without the odor permeating the car and/or diaper bag. Wash them the second you get home.

It worked for me with both kids. Even with disposables. I never threw an icky diaper at anyone else's house or in a public trash can. YUCK!

It's been quite some time since my boys were in diapers...But, when I used them they were cloth and carrying soiled diapers required something water and smell proof, as you've discovered. :) I'd suggest a resealable bag such as a 1 gallon food storage one. If you're going to be out and about for some time, or overnight, you may want to use a tall waste basket liner and twist tie. Just rinse your soiled diapers as usual and store until you get home...

I used cloth diapers exclusively for my daughter. I would carry an empty ziploc bag and put the soiled diapers in there until I got home.

Babies-R-us has these great disposable diaper bags that are scented that work great. They come in boxes of 50 and aren't very expensive. In fact, I have an extra box left over (my son is now potty trained). I live in Fremont and would be more than happy to give them to you. Let me know.

We are using clothes diapers on our daughter too. We send her to the Grandpa's houese for daycare. They use newspaper bags and plastic grocery bags.

I've used plastic diaper bags that are scented but don't hold much. Another idea is assorted sized zip lock bags. Because they seal the smell stays contained. And leaks aren't a worry.

I usually use a wet bag because it holds the odor in. But in a pitch would use a plastic grocery bag or ziploc bag.

I have a some travel wet bags that hold two or three diapers in them. This way when its time to do laundry I just empty the bag and throw it in the wash with the diapers. It is verry possible to go out and about with out using disposables.

Sounds like you should just use the convenience of disposable diapers when you are going to go out. If not, and you are not near a toilet, make sure you have plenty of plastic bags to put the diaper in, in the meantime. If you're near toilet facilities, dip the diaper in the toilet to get rid of the soiled part, wring out the diaper and put it in the plastic bag. Of course washing your hands with soap and water after is critical. Maybe even take some disposable plastic gloves.

Hello, my favorite wetbag is made by wahmies, they are awesome, no smell! I even keep a pack of wipes in it so all I ever have to carry is the wetbag!

From a great grandmother who used cloth diapers with 5 children and also many newborn foster children.

When changing diapers at a friends house, flush and clean out the diaper in the friend's toilet then wring it out and place in a plastic bag. When you change the baby in the car or another place with no toilet you just have to keep the dirty diaper in a plastic bag along with the wipes.
Public restrooms are places you can dispose of the wipes which are not flushable .Since you dont want to wash out the diaper in some of those rather dirty toilets, just get rid of what you can into the toilet and store the diaper in a plastic bag. If you have a small bottle of detergent or spray bottle of water with some mild soap you could spray or pour some on the dirty part of the diaper until you can get home and do the pre washing in your own toilet.
I'm only sending this along because I do not know of a lot of current mothers who use cloth diapers exclusively. I still work as a nanny and very few of my moms have cloth. Good for you!! N.

i would recomend just using disposible when out and about doing things but if you are going to. get the galon size zip lock bags and just make sure you flush the poo and rinse it out if posible (this is mostly from my mom)

plastic grocery bags or used bread loaf bags. i am sure you have plenty of both. just twist or tie off and deal with it when you get home. throw them in the pail, get rid of the poop, whatever. use them a few times and throw them away. i could never quite justify buying a special bag just to carry my kids poop!

Hi S.. I'm one of those people that always intended to buy a special wet bag to keep in our diaper bag, but just never got around to it. I made do with stuffing the diaper in a ziploc bag until I got home, then I'd rinse it out ASAP. If I could do it over, I'd just buy the reusable wet bag so I'm not throwing all those little baggies in the trash.

I got a diaper bag dispenser that holds little plastic bags. You can tie them shut, and clip the knot off later. I love that it's convenient, and stays neat in the diaper bag. It's made by Sassy. It comes with bags already in it, and the replacements are not expensive. I got it at Toys r us. So, it's easy to find.

We used cloth diapers for the most part, but when we went on trips, or later at night time too, we usually used the disposables (7th gen) as we found it much easier. But otherwise, just bring a big plastic zip lock bag to keep it until you can wash it is my suggestion. take care. p.s. disposable or polyester liners also help a great deal with messier diapers! they sell some that are biodegradable.

Congratulations on cloth diapering. You are doing a great thing for your baby and the planet. Please, please don't use disposables while your out. There are many great options to keep up your cd'ing while out and about. I use and highly recommend the WAHMies brand wet bag. You can do a google search for WAHMies wet bag and find them on many websites. I have the medium size and its been great for my short errands and my long errands. This bag has a PUL (waterproof) lining and a very cute outer cover. It closes with a zipper and has a little hemp patch sewn into the lining so you can put tea tree oil or lavender on it to contain smells while your out. If you don't like a zipper closure, there are many other brands out there that have a twist tie type, cinch type or velcro. Its all up to your personal preference. These bags are not cheap, but are well worth the investment. I've been using my WAHMies bag for almost two years and it has plenty of life left. When my son is finished with diapering, I can still use it for wet clothes, swimsuits, etc. I paid $14.95 for my bag. If you are having trouble traveling with cloth, you might also want to look into the Gdiapering system. Its a more eco-friendly disposable with a cloth cover. Anyhow, as a long time cloth diapering mom who still uses them, I can't say enough about traveling with your wet bag. It keeps everything contained and its so cute. It really is easy to go out and about with cloth, in fact I can still count on one hand how many packages of disposables I've purchased in two years. It really can be done. It's been many years as my girls are 18 and 20. The best bag in the world for dirty diapers were bread bags! They were air tight if you tied them and tough (sturdy) I would untie dump diaper in washer and put a bleach solution I think it was 1 bleach to 10 parts water. the bag didn't stay stinky diaper bag didn't either. We eat a lot of bread so we would have a couple of new ones a week. I was shocked to hear anyone even used cloth anymore. I used them and it was even rare back then. I couldn't afford disposables and I'm sure they are even more expensive now.

I don't know if they still do it, but I was able to buy diapers from the diaper service I was givin as a shower gift. They diapers were far superior to any I could buy elsewhere.

I buy the scented diaper disposal bags from the dollar store. you get a box of 100 for $1. They are just big enough to wrap up a dirty diaper in, tie it up and throw it back in the diaper bag until you get home. If I'm near a toilet and its a poopy diaper I will dump the solid before wrapping up the diaper. If not, I just wrap up the whole thing and deal with it at home.

They have tote bags that are meant to hold soiled cloth diapers. they can be washed as needed. It's been awhile, but I think one of the companies that makes them is called bummis. I really enjoyed the one that I had.

I just always put them in a plastic bag, and tied the top closed, then tossed it in the diaper bag. Nothing fancy. When I got home, I would just add it to the diaper pail.
