Does anyone have experience taking clomid for fertility? My sister was just handed the news that she will most likely not be able to get pregnant on her own and has just started taking clomid as a result. She's expressed concerns with possible risks and I'm wondering if anyone can offer some encouraging words?
I took it for three months and now have a beautiful 3 month old baby boy. The only problem or side affect that I had was moodiness and irritable for some of the time. It was worth it. Best of luck to her.
I was on clomid for 3 cycles. It caused mood swings and headaches but nothing severe. It didn't work for me. I ended up seeing a fertility specialist for IUI's and eventually IVF is what did the trick for me.
My cousin conceived her middle child on it and she is fine - no developmental issues or any other issues either...I also know a few other people who conceived on it and they haven't had anything bad happen to their children from being on it...Everyone I know said that the hormones make you crankier than usual though.
Good luck to your sister. I too was told to go on Clomid and it worked! Twice! I experienced nausea 8 out of the 9 months of pregnancy the first time. Second pregnancy - I felt better. I'm so glad my doctor put me on it, now I have 2 beautiful children!

I used Clomid to conceive, and I was pregnant the first month. I did end up with twins, but my grandmother also had two sets of twins. So, we don't know what truly caused the multiples. But, my doctor told me it's only a 6% chance of conceiving twins.

Hi there. I took clomid two years ago and have a beautiful 12 month old! I wasn't ovulating on my own and ending up pregnant after only one round. I read all about the side effects but I did not experience any problems. My doctor never mentioned to us that the chance of multiples is increased to 20%. It would not have changed our course of action but nice to know - that's high! I was also advised to take Mucinex during ovulation. Good luck to your sister!
It was great! True the side effects make you a crazy person, but it is worth it. We tried to get pregnant for almost a year and after one round of Clomid we got pregnant! I would do it again in a heartbeat if we decide to have another. Good luck to her!
I used clomid for the 3 months my doctor prescribed and became pregnant with my first child on the first cycle after I was done with it. I don't remember there being any side effects and I now have 2 beautiful sons.

I was on it for 6 months, with no luck. I then got Clear Blue Easy ovulation kit and it told me exactly what day to "have fun" and I got pregnant the second month. I was on a 30 day cycle and the doctor some how was off by a day and that's why I never got pregnant by using clomid.
I don't recall there being any moodswings. I have however heard it increases your chances of having twins.
Be there for her...your hormones go BEYOND CRAZY!! She may not be nice to you, but her husband needs to hang tough...it's a rough ride but so worth it :)
My first child is a result of one round of Clomid - no problems at all. I was told I'd never ovulate, but while still breastfeeding, got pregnant with my second child, no Clomid needed.
Just fyi, my ob/gyn had me take progesterone during my first pregnancy, with the (overly cautious?) thought that my body needed it to help the developing fetus, but knowing what I know now, I would have questioned that.
I realize I was lucky that the Clomid worked so quickly - I wish your sister the same great luck.
PS: After trying to get pregnant for so long, I remember struggling with the spiritual (to me) aspects of infertility. ("If it was meant to be.....") Every woman's experience is different, but I'm sure many moms here have also struggled with infertility issues in general if your sister would like to join the site. Just a thought.
I used Clomid for my first pregnancy. After 4 years of trying without Clomid, we tried it. It took quite a few cycles and a high dosage (150 mg) to conceive. I also took my basal temperature (BBT) every morning and that helped. After 6 cycles (2 on each dosage) and it not working, my doctor put me on birth control pills for 3 months in order to re-regulate my cycle and then hit me with 150 mg right away. That is how we conceived my daughter who is now 3 years old and smart as a whip. We tried for 8 months to conceive for a second pregnancy. My doctor didn't make me wait the year because of past history and put me on Clomid. After 1 cycle of 50 mg and BBT, we are currently 10 weeks pregnant with our second child. I have twins in my family on my moms side, but we have had singles for both pregnancies. I had a friend who took Clomid for all of her pregnancies and had a single and then twins, but she only waited 1 year between pregnancies. I didn't have any mood swings or other side effects, but each person is different. Just make sure that you discuss any side effects with your doctor so they can make any adjustments that are needed. Yes! I was very slow to get pregnant for my first child (I have three), and went on Clomid. There is a slight increased risk of multiples with Clomid, but it is still unlikely. I got pregnant on my second month with Clomid, and once my body seemed to get the idea, I got pregnant faster with the next two without any drugs.
I used it.. it worked like a charm.. Everything became regulated.. I even lost 30 pounds because it helped with Insulin resistance.. We were preggers on the 3rd round!

I was on Clomid after being told similiar news. I got pregnant within a month. Other than getting more frequent ultrasounds to monitor for twins, I had absolutely no problems with my pregnancy. My son is 2 1/2 and PERFECT. We also get pregnant with our daughter all on our own. She is 7 months. Tell her to rest easy.
I had a good experience with clomid. After trying for a year to get pregnant, my doctor suggested clomid. To my happiness, it only took to rounds of clomid and I was pregnant. I had a healthy baby boy. Even better, I was able to get pregnant without clomid the next time around. The nurse told me sometimes clomid can "kickstart" your body for you. I didn't have any side effects with the clomid. I wish your sister luck!
I took two rounds of clomid with a month "rest" in between because my ovaries were overstimulated. I didn't experience any side effects at all. (only a little pain/bloating right around ovulation time) I ended up getting pregnant following the second month on it. My girlfriend also was on it and got pregnant first or second round and didn't complain of any side effects. Tell your sister not to worry and good luck!

I had terrible headaches and was a little crazy on it. Each cycle I tried it got worse. After I told the office that, they switched me off it right away. We used the injections then and those had much fewer side effects...and worked! Just tell her to hang in there! It can be a frustrating process, so one day at a time!

It worked for me. The only problem was that when I ovulated it was painful and therefore I was not in a romantic mood.
