Cleaning Wood Floors - Raleigh,NC

Ok Moms, I recently moved to a house with all wood floors. Cleaning them is a pain, I vacuum and although there is a floor setting it just doesn't do a good job. I also have a small swiffer which is pretty good but still not very good. Misses alot of stuff and is good for quick cleans. I want to buy something that will take care of these floors as they are really nice and I rent. What do you recommend? Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the input. I am going to look into getting a Steam Shark. May as well try to make it productive when I clean! Next house is going to have carpets!

My husband used to install hardwood floors for a living. He has a special mop with washable covers (looks like a really big swiffer) and a special spray cleaner for the heavier cleanings. I believe you can buy them at Home Depot but might want to check with a hardwood floor company for supplies. Just be careful that what you use is specific to hardwood floors since other cleaners can leave build-up or damage your floors.

A lot of people will recommend vinegar. However, I recently learned from a floor guy, vinegar is good BUT you need to rinse it off. Most people don't know that. I just use a regular broom then a microfiber mop. I don't do the squeeze and mop, I actually fill a bucket and rinse it off and put the mop head back on. My kids are too messy for squeeze and mop, lol!

Well we just moved to a home with all wood floors too. Our floors were in bad shape so we had to get them completely refinished. The floor guy said that he recommends a Shark floor vac or at least a vacuum that does not have the bristles to scratch the floors. He said you could even use a dust mop but sometimes the dust flies around so you want to vacuum. As far as mopping I have always heard white vinegar with water but my floor guys recommends ONLY water. He says that all floor products can leave a residue and over time it shows. They dull and they have build up. There is one floor cleaner called BONA that you can buy at Home Depot, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Lowes. It is ok for your floors but the best thing you can do is use a 'little' bit of water and only use BONA every 6 months or so to shine your floors. I have a Dyson b/c we have pets and it works great on floors and carpet. He says do NOT use the Swiffer liquid, you can use the swiffer mop but be sure to only put water in it b/c they Swiffer liquid is not good for real wood floors.
