I wouldn't consider myself an expert but I mix 50% vinegar with 50% water in my spray bottle for cleaning! The smell goes away once dry =)
I am such a dumba$$ when it comes to cleaning with baking soda and vinegar sometimes.
Piggybacking my question about keeping your house smelling fresh, I took ya'lls advice and started wiping things down with full strength vinegar, such as my counters, blinds, laundry baskets, any pretty much anything wipe-able. I even added some to my hard floor steam cleaner. And while I could just feel my house becoming more and more disinfected, it smells like a chemical plant every time I use my spray bottle now. Good? Bad?
I don't mind the smell but my family is about to take my bottle of full strength vinegar away from me! I even put a few drops of eucalyptus (sp?) oil, which was all I have on hand right now, and they still don't like it. Should I tell them to get over it and get used to it or to get lost because I'm doing it for the good of the household and all that is smelly?

A., it does take some getting used to for sure. My family used to complain about the smell when I was cleaning but now we do not even notice it and it goes away once the vinegar dries.
If you have time, you can steep the vinegar in orange or lemon peel to help with the smell. I will throw a bunch of orange peels into a mason jar, then pour vinegar on top and let it sit for a week, strain out and pour the mixture into your spray bottle. It will smell great. You can also put a few drops of any sort of oil into it.
I mix it 50/50 with water for the spray bottle.
I think that level of dilution is fine for general household cleaning (and certainly makes the vinegar go farther).
The smell should disappear as it dries, so if they don't like it, let them go to the park or run an errand while you clean. They'll come home to a clean, odorless home.
I mix vinegar, water and baking soda together to clean the bathrooms and kitchen floors. I don't smell the vinegar as much but maybe I'm used to it.
I haven't tried this yet but I heard if you mix peroxide and vinegar and make a paste out of it, you can clean the grout between the tiles in the shower and bathroom floor.
I didn't thing that vinegar smell lasted very long.
If you get some good essential oils like orange or lemon, and add quite a few drops to a vinegar and water (50/50) mixture, it should definitely tone down the smell. After that, tell them to get over it.
I will pour straight vinegar down the sinks and allow it to sit overnight. My husband will sometimes walk in right after I have poured it and throws a fit over the smell. I enjoy it. =)
I always dilute the vinegar with water, unless I plan on thoroughly rinsing it off. Remember that vinegar is an acid and should not be left on some surfaces, such as metal, but should be rinsed off after cleaning.
I would not use vinegar on blinds and laundry baskets, but instead would use only a wet rag to wipe them, unless they were unusually greasy.
Even vinegar can be overused. You really don't want a house that stinks of vinegar.
I mix it w/ a little water.
I use Seventh Generation products...and one from Young Living, too.
The one from Y Living is called Thieves and it is comprised of essential oils ! It smells good. I use just a tad at a time!
Hi, I use vinegar mostly to wipe stuff down (not on floors, I just prefer alcohol and water on the floors). I mix about 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water and I add 5 drops each of rosemary, lavender, peppermint, tea tree and rose essential oils (or whatever essences I have on hand really). Cleans really well, especially, I recently discovered, to get stuff like crayon off my countertops, and it doesn't smell totally vile. My husband threatened to move out at one point cause the house smelled gross and, apparently, I smelled like salad. Now no one is complaining!

The smell only lasts a few moments, I don't see it as a big issue personally.
be careful with full strength vinegar in your steam mop, floors and counters. it can pit stone, metal, and compromise hard wood floor finishes.
I don't mind the smell of vinegar. it does away, like everything else.
