Cleaning the Shower Curtain

I looked through the requests and couldn't find anyone who has asked this. Is there some way to clean the shower curtain that is plastic or do you just have to throw them away every six months? I have a scrubbing bubbles thingy in there but it doesn't seem to do anything about the grime. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Sweet!!! We were in the middle of a move so we waited to try out some things. We did the bleach and not a hint of grossness left!! Just our fun color curtain. Woo hoo!! Thanks so much - the heat did iron out the wrinkles too btw.

In the USMC I learned to toss them in the washer by themselves (on high, cold or warm water) with about a cup of bleach. Obviously, don't put them in the dryer.

<Laughing> While it was a weekly thing then (we weren't allowed to go out and party on the weekends unless our rooms were surgically clean) we do it once a month or once every other month now. Even if there doesn't seem to be a hint of pink, when they come out of the wash...wow. Okay...so apparently I just don't SEE the pink starting.

We only ever have to throw them out if the cat climbs up it, or the kids tear ALL the holes beyond repair. It's pretty easy to melt new holes, but only if you haven't done it 3 times already.

We're on the same plastic liner now that we've had for the past 5 years. (Only one hole has been replaced) The water is never TOTALLY gone from the spin cycle...so be careful not to drip on anything.

I put mine in the washer with 2-3 bath towels. I add a cup of vinegar to the last rinse. I read that the vinegar prevents some of the wrinkling. I think it also acts as a sanitizer. The curtin never smells like vinegar.

The last couple of times I skipped the vinegar. The heat of the shower smoothed out the wrinkles.

I buy the kind that help reduce build up for mold and mildew. You can buy them at target I know for sure. They are 9.99. They still end up needing to be throw away, they do last about 9 months. I know you can buy the reg. ones for like four bucks, there are things I feel ok with wasting moeny on so they stay clean though.

I usually just toss them out but I always buy the Dollar Tree ones so it isn't that big of a deal for us. If for some reason I decide to clean it instead of tossing it I just use whatever cleaner I use for the tub and either a towel or one of those green scratchy things for dishes. Depending on how long the grime has been there, it will either come right off or leave some staining. Hope that helps!

i don't know if you meant the liner or the curtain itself, but i throw the liner in the washer by itself with some bleach once a month or so. as for the liner, there should be laundering instructions on its package, though i find mine stays fairly clean and dry.
