Hi Ladies- I'm hoping you could give me some advise on cleaning my hubby's silk ties. I don't want to take them to the dry cleaner since that's very expensive in my town. I was thinking I could hand wash them then lay them flat to dry??? Has anyone tried this does it work? Thanks for all your help.

What can I do next?

It doesn't cost a lot to have ties cleaned, and I'd bite the bullet and go that route.

Hi S., my name is Jackie and i tried to clean my husbands silk tie once, never again its not worth it. It just wrinkled even though I dried it flat, I have even tried spot cleaning and this just leaves more stains, so it is far cheaper to send them to the cleaners, as trying to find another tie the same is not easy sorry. Take care Jackie

Hi S.,
Unfortunately, if you try to wash a silk tie, blouse, whatever....you will ruin the fabric.
My best suggestion is to take you silk items to Carousal Cleaners located on 13 Mile Rd just east of Utica Rd in Roseville, MI: ###-###-####. The people there are fantastic, fair and reasonably priced. My family has used them for over 2 decades and we have never had an item runined by their services.
Trust you find this information helpful. Have a wonderful spring!

I used to work at a dry cleaners for years (in my younger days) and I will tell you silk is not a good thing to wash, it will leave water rings and wrinkle very badly, unfortunatley you need to either buy some dryel and use that to clean your ties or just pay the price to dry clean.
never wash silk or wool, those 2 things really need to be drycleaned

I use Dawn dish liquid. And lay out to dry. Works great!! you could also try the Dryel stuff for other things. I heard it works great.
