Cleaning Shower Door

Any suggestions on cleaning a shower door and keeping it clean? Mine is bad. I've tried full strength CLR, magic eraser, lime away, you name it. I've gotten it "cleaner" and put Rain-x on it, but it was dirty again in a few days. I know it doesn't help that I'm the only one who takes the time to squeegee. Any ideas welcomed. I'm close to just getting a new door and starting over.

We use Scrubbing Bubbles and never had an issue not getting it clean. Spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes (10-15), then scrub with a stiff brush.

Mineral Shock to get it clean (should be available at a local commercial supply co.). Apply a good car wax to make it run off.

Good old Comet works for me. I make a little paste and let is sit on there for a few hours, then wash off. It really helps to let it sit for a while

1:1 white vinegar:dish soap. Spray it on, let it sit for a bit, then rinse (I wipe it with a wet microfiber cleaning cloth then just pour water down the door to finish rinsing). Just spray the minimum or it will take forever to rinse off!

Equal parts white vinegar and the blue Dawn dishsoap. TRUST ME. Mix equal parts of these two in a spray bottle. Mix it up. Spray it liberally on your shower door. Let it sit for 1 hour (or longer). Wipe it clean with a washcloth or scrubber and rinse with water. I found this cleaning solution online and have been using it for over a year now. It gets my shower doors (and floors) looking brand new again, even with hard water. I love that it has very little to zero scrubbing involved. The downside is that I don't care for the smell, but the smell is gone as soon as you rinse and I've never had an easier time cleaning the shower.

I've tried every other type of product and this one is less expensive and works much better than the rest. I've never used it with a different dish detergent (other than Dawn), but I imagine it would work just as well. I buy a gallon worth of vinegar at the store for about $3.00 and it lasts for a very long time.

My cousins use to dry themselves after a shower then use the towel to dry off the shower walls and door.
The towels gets washed often and since the water doesn't dry on surfaces there's no scale build up.
If your water is really hard it might be worth it to get a water softener system.

QI'm not squeegeing, lol.

I saw a response on here one time and it was edgy, controversial.
I was desperate.
An SOS pad. It worked to get all the old minerals off. Then I could clean it pretty good. I do have a shower door "textured" on the outside, it's not plain glass.
If you are game, try a patch.

When you see the price of those doors, I bet you will!

I answered earlier and my internet too a break :(

We've had glass doors over 20 years.

The 1 rule is: every time the shower is used, it must be squeegeed, no excuses. We also wipe it down with a towel after each use. Our glass door has never been an issue.

The cleaner I like and works great in the bathroom is by comet (white spray bottle with green cap)

About once a year, we'll apply marine boat polish and buff it well. This is a huge sweat equity job but worth it. The water just beads after you do this and continues to bead for quite some time.

Good luck.

Once you've got all the hard water/soap scum off the doors, use a bit of lemon furniture polish/oil and wipe down the doors. It will create a layer on the doors so when the water goes on it, it just beads up and rolls off. My Mom used to own a housecleaning company and this was one of her little tricks she taught me. Yes, squeegee is the next step, but the furniture polish oil will help so the water doesn't dry into hard water spots.

have you tried vinegar? Just asking - but it gets all those hard water and lime stains off better than all those other things. They used to sell a scrubbing bubbles spray that you sprayed on the door when it was still wet from the last shower. But I stopped using it because my husband never would. If you're the only one using the squeegee, it'll probably be the same problem with that.

My girlfriend told me about this and it works - like all methods you do have to be diligent or it can build up as well .... spray car wax .... try clean the doors as best you can - use the spray car wax on the glass - it will lift the left over and then it's like a waxed window - helps to allow the water to 'run' or 'bead' off ... so if you are good about squegeeing (!!!) then it really does cut the cleaning efforts down!! Good Luck!

When my sister cleaned houses she used good quality furniture polish inside the shower. On the walls of the shower area and the doors. It repeals water and soap. I think I used Behold or the one with Bee's Wax in it.

Ditto the previous advice about a 50/50 mixture of blue Dawn dish soap (regular, not concentrated) and white vinegar in a spray bottle will remove anything with minimal work. It is a miracle and I wish I had found out about it before this year. I use it on just about everything but glass and mirrors. Even laundry stains!

Just found a more concentrated than normal , big bottle of vinegar at Wal Mart that is supposed to be great for cleaning. I'd give that a try.

I'm with Gamma G. Clean it really well then apply the furniture polish or just plain-old vegetable oil (like Wesson, etc.). It's also what a former housecleaner used. I have the hammered-glass finish so the spots aren't as noticeable; good thing because I never squeegie :)
P.S. lower your standards :) there's more to life than worrying about a few hard water spots on the shower door.
