We have the Sunshine Radian XT car seat and have loved it, but yesterday my 1 year old spilled milk all over it and it's going to start to smell...we can't figure out how to get the cover off to wash it. Someone please tell me they know how to do this...there's no way we can survive years in this car seat without washing!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice everyone! As was mentioned, there are two buttons you have to get undone and they are quite difficult. We thought we would break it if we pulled them any harder but it's just the way the seat is. Thanks for the reassurance!

Catharina got it right. There are two flat plastic plugs in the base area of the seat that hold the cover on. You'll need to persuade them to come loose. LOL. Once you pop those off, you just need to slide back where the cover 'clips' to the top and bottom of the seat.

Hand Wash it in cold water, gentle detergent, no bleach, and hang to dry, and you're good to go!

Hi M.,

There are buttons that secure the fabric to the frame - just unbutton them, pull off the fabric and throw it in the washing machine (cold, gentle) with some detergent. Let it air dry, and it will be good as new. Let me know if you have any trouble, and I can try to get more detailed instructions for you.

Take care,

It should have come with an instruction booklet that shows how to remove the cover and how to properly install it in a car, etc.

I googled the carseat and came up with this website
http://carseatblog.com/?p=1066

I copied this from that website:

Owners Manual: The owner’s manual is large, clear and has good diagrams and pictures. It is conveniently attached to the seat with a cord but is easily removed without having to cut the cord.

Cover Removal & Fabric Care: Removing the cover takes effort due to two plugs on the outside that hold the cover in place. These plugs are, in my opinion, unreasonably difficult to remove. The cover itself is hand wash and line dry only. If you need to get the cover off and you’re having trouble removing the plugs – use a butter knife to pry them out just a little and then use pliers to finish the job.

If the cover comes off you can wash that, but be careful what detergent you use. It's probably in the directions so you might want to read that. I was talking to the guys from Safety Squad (they are car seat safety experts) and they recommend a certain detergent, but can't remember right now what they said, but the other thing they said was to not take the harness apart and put them in the wash, it stretches them out and makes them not work properly. They said just spot clean the harness, and if it really needs to be cleaned then just call the manufacturer and you can easily buy replacements that aren't to expensive.
