Cleaning Microfiber Couch!

I have a microfiber/microsuede couch - whatever you want to call it. When I bought it (about 4 years ago) it had been Scotch guarded and until the last year, has been stain free. In the past 12-18 months, stains are appearing. I attempted to clean them off using just warm water and a soft rag to rub out the spill - but now have water rings on the fabric. So, my question is, how do you clean your microfiber furniture - and if you have had water stains, how do you get those out as well. I'd love the help! Thanks!

We also use baby wipes. Also, with really bad stains my hubby would put them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle and let them air dry. (totally against the instructions, but it worked!)

We also have this kind of fabric on our couch. I know the instructions say not to use any soap when cleaning it, but when I was pregnant I had hyperemesis, and I vomitted on the couch. That was the first time we used mild soap and water. It worked out just fine, and since then I've spot cleaned my son's vomit off it also, with no problems. I used Method brand hand soap, and just a little bit of it, on a fairly damp rag. Works great. The way I keep water rings away is to brush the fabric back and forth a few times while it is drying. Seems to be no problem for us. Good luck.

A squirt of Dawn dishsoap and warm water. Also to avoid water marks I have to clean the whole thing at once, not spot clean.

When we got our couches or salesman told us to use baby wipes for stains. It works pretty good. =)

I'm not sure if they will sell it at the counter, but we've got 2 microfiber couches from Sofa Mart. We bought their stain cleaner & protection plan (at purchase). The only thing I've not been able to get out is red acrylic paint. The first 2 bottles of light stain & heavy stain (bottle each) lasted me nearly 3 years since it's concentrated & you dilute it. I spray it all down w/a spraybottle full of cleaner-or the entire area of material (to seams-mine has a seam mid-thigh & if I need to do the butt part I wash to that seam). I don't have water spots that way.
I'm not sure what is in their cleaner, but I've been able to get even ink pen out & ours wasn't Scotch-guarded to start with.

I was looking to buy a microfiber couch and asked the best way to clean. She said mix a little Dawn dishwashing liquid with distillled water.

Microfiber is suppose to be cleaned with distilled water, in other words chemical free. I have barstools with microfiber and I had water stains too...I used clorox green works spray cleaner, water (I have a reverse osmosis system)and a dobie sponge. You may have to clean the entire surface in order to eliminate the water ring.

I get rings on mine when the kid's water cups leak. I just take a damp rag and go over it. It goes away.

When they get really dirty from little hands, I use our carpet cleaner attachment. I get the cushions wet, scrub a little with the attachment scrub head thing (nice description?? lol) and suck it up. It is dry by morning.

For stains - if baby wipes don't work, I have used rubbing alcohol. (gets ink and marker out!)

I don't know about your microfiber couch, but on the tag, mine says to use a water soluble cleaner (cleaning code WS). I use Woolite Foam Cleaner - Fabric & Upholstery. It works really well.

First, find and read the tag on the couch. It will let you know which type of cleaner (water-based, or solvent-based) that you should use. Use a small amount of cleaner and rub the stain gently. Now, since you have had your couch for four years, it has probably collected quite a bit of oil, from cooking, and human and animal skin. Oils stick to the microfibers, so it is undoubtedly due for an over all steam cleaning.

I just put a slip cover over our couch that we can throw in the washing machine until our kids get older and we can take it off. Three kids and a nice couch don't mix! Hope you can get the satin out!

We got our microfiber couch this past Fall and the sales lady said to use distilled water to avoid water marks/rings. I use a water bottle with a little dish soap and a damp cloth.
Good luck!!
