I fill a bowl with vinegar (about 1 or 2 cups) and place it on the bottom rack. Then I run the dishwasher empty or with glasses on the top rack. It cleans the dishwasher, isn't harmful and will remove any calcium or other hard water build-up. The stuff has amazing cleaning power if you can get past the smell.

Hi M. -

I think it is Jet Dry that makes a dishwasher cleaner. YOU put it in the silverware basket then run the dishwasher empty with the bottle of cleaner. I have used this on numerous occasions and it works pretty well. Hard to find the dishwasher empty though to actually get in the cleaning time!

Put a cup of vinegar in the dishwasher and run a cycle with just that.

There is a cleaner at the store, I can't remember the name off hand, but it is in kind of a squarish bottle by the dishwasher stuff, and it cleans the dishwasher pretty well. You have to use it by itself, and I usually run it once or twice afterwards just to make sure the junk is out because I have two-two year olds. You have to clean around the door and things yourself though. C L R , or limeaway usually does a good job on that. Sometimes I also run about a 1/4 cup of bleach in the washer during my wash and just run an extra rinse. That does okay too.

They actually manufacture products for this but I used to run a 1/4 of a cup of white vinegar thru mine on a short wash cycle once a month and my sister-in-law uses baking soda and vinegar once a month in her's. Neither of these products is harmful and both can be eatten so there is nothing in either one that is harmful to humans or pets. You don't have to run extra rinse cycles etc.
I run a cup of white vinegar thru my coffee maker once a month too. If it comes out really darker than it should I will run it thru again until it is clear. You would be amazed at the residue it will clean out of the coffee maker. I do run a pot of hot water thru the coffee maker before I make the next pot of coffee, however to get the rest of the vinegar out.

i bought some stuff that you run through when the dishwasher is empty, but it really didn't help much. I'll be interested to see if anyone else has any ideas for you.

This may sound silly , but it works, put a few drops of dish liquid in the detergent cup, and afew drops of bleach in with it. Only use a few drops of liquid soap, or you'll have a sudsy mess in your floor. Put it on heavey , and let it run through, you'll be pleasently surprised at how clean it turns out.

Well, I use a gallon of vinegar in an empty dishwasher and run it through a cycle every 3 months. THat gets rid of hard water build up. YOu should also clean your strainer, read your owners manual to find out how. Then wash down the edges and the seal with soap and water or an all purpose cleaner.

Believe it or not, dry lemonade mix (like countrytime) in the dishwasher liguid container. NO dishes of course and let the machine run like normal, is what I understand is effective. I did try it and it seems to work!

I dont know if this will work or is even recoomended my the manufacturer but what about running an empty cycle with bleach and/or baking soda? I use baking soda to get all kinds of odors out of all kinds of stuff. I like bleach because, well, its bleach and I feel it is clean when its done. Obviously run an emply load (or 2) after just to make sure the residue is off. This would probably work on the washer machine too!

We used Lemon Shine to clean our dishwasher and get deposits off glasses. The nice thing is that you can do it during a normal load of dishes.

There is a new product out made by jet spray and you put it in your dish washer and it makes it sparkle clean. Look at your local stores in the cleaning products near the dish washing detergents.
