Hi there!! I was wondering if anyone has a good and safe way to clean bath toys? I have two boys, 4 yr and 11 mos. I didn't know if it is good to soak them in a bleach/water combination or something else. I have thrown away tub toys in the past, and that can get pretty costly. Thank you ahead of time!!!

So What Happened?

I decided to wash the toys in the top of the dishwasher in the toy net bag. They came out so clean! And the bag came out looking brand new too. Thank you to all those that responded! And thank you for sending me the heads-up on the dangers of bleach.

I have 2 boys one os 2 years and the other is 5 months. I clean every thing in bleach water. I put a cap full of bleach and half of a spray bottle full of water and clean there toys or I also use clorox wipes

I either put them in the dishwasher or I spray them down with the Clorox anywhere sanitizing spray. Also the rubber ducks and such that get water inside if you put just a little superglue over the hole it prevents water from going in and then you don't have to worry about trying to get all the water out which I think is impossible.

A bucket of vinegar and water is good. Squeeze the ones with holes a number of time to make sure it gets on the inside. You can also put them in a net bag and put them in the washer with mild detergetn (hot water). :)

Hi! I was having the same problem with bath toys especially rubber ducks (getting gross inside) the best way I've found is to throw them in the washing machine with bleach, this also works for smells sponges.
hope that helped,
R.

Hey R.~ As far as cleaning the toys go, DO NOT use any bleach at all. This will do more harm than good. Bleach and Lysol are registered pesticides causing many diseases we have today because of the toxins so make sure you stay away from them and don't even have them in your home from the outgassing affects they can cause too. Plus it is not worth the risk of your kids getting into either. I would suggest you buy cleaners that are plant and vegetable based with no chemicals and more along the natural way that would be much safer. I have switched all my shopping habits and now shop from an awesome store that saves me a lot of time and money. Please check out this www.livetotalwellness.com/cindygeoff to learn more about why we need to shop from a different store with the better safer products for our families. I would love to talk with you more in detail about this too so if you want to email me back or request info. from our website we can find a good time to get together. I would refer you to use a disinfectant approved by the EPA to be used in hospitals and daycares that is safe and natural.

I work from home with this company so I can tell you more on how to get it, just let me know :)

Any of the toys that have collected water inside the toy, throw it out. There is just no way to get all the gunk that grows inside them out.

I throw the toys in a bucket with hot water and the oxyclean powder. let them sit for a bit, then rinse well. You can also run them through the dishwasher.

To store the bath toys between use, use a mesh bag that allows them to dry out.

I have no idea why they make bath toys that collect water? I try to get as much water out as I can then either wash them in the dishwasher, I think I read somewhere that that sanitizes them or I soak them in a bucket with bleach and water. We still throw a lot away though. I try to find ones that don't get water inside them.

I would recommend putting the plastic or rubberized bath toys in a net bag and putting them on the top shelf of the dishwasher- I clean my kitchen sponges that way and it keeps them smelling clean and minimizes the germ factor.

Best of luck! and enjoy those wild boys- I raised two myself and it was quite a ride- they're all grown in their 30's now- having a little girl was a great joy after the two of them kept me running:-)

Soak them in BacOut. It's an all-natural cleaner that you can use to clean just about anything in your home. You can find it at places like Whole Foods.
