Classes for a Three Year Old

My son turned three and really wants to play sports, but he is just too young yet for any of the sports teams around here. He will not be old enough until the fall. I have been trying to find an activity for him to do in the evenings about once a week. My mother wants him to do some sort of dance or similar and I am open to whatever as long as he doesn't have to sit for long periods, I want him to be active and he just won't sit for very long. I used to be a member of Norfolk Fitness and Wellness center in Norfolk and he took a couple of swim classes with me but he is just getting too big for that and they don't seem to be offering any classes for little guys at this time and I just want him to start being a little more independent and have some fun. So, if you Moms have any ideas for something that he can do in the Norfolk area that is not too expensive and he will enjoy any suggestions are welcome.

What can I do next?

Check out Gymboree. They have all sorts of classes (including a pre-sports). Some martial arts studios have a beginners "little kids" classes where they work on physical fitness and listening. I have friends kids who have "played" soccer since they were 3...in Churchland Soccer League, so you may want to check around. Good luck.

He could play soccer. There are two soccer clubs in Norfolk. They both start with 3 years. The Bumble Bee Soccer is going to start in March till May. Its 120 Dollars. Or with united soccer club its 60 Dollars but its not going as long. They don't really play soccer but more getting used to the ball and play games. Maybe thats something he would like.

Hi J., I also have a 3 yr old who is interested in sports. We just joined the YMCA in Norfolk and I am really impressed with the activities. Currently, they have "itty bitty basketball"--for ages 3-5. They also have "itty bitty soccer" and swim classes for all ages (at 3 they can go without a parent in the pool...)
I know the Y can be a little expensive, but I suggest you at least call them and talk to them about their programs.
I also have my boys enrolled in gymnastics at Tidewater Gymnastics Academy. It is great for motor development, coordination and flexibility not to mention following directions. Which will transfer to other sports later on.

Hope this helps,
C.

J W Tumbles was great for my now 5 yr. old grandson. We went to 983 Providence Square Shopping Center ###-###-####
____@____.com Beth Gauthier is one of the owner/instructor. She is wonderful and has experience as a teacher of little ones as well as a mother of two young children. There are other J W Tumbles (Ghent and Ches.).
Also VA Rush for soccer. They take them at 3 spring and fall.
