Our class collecred money for our kdg. teacher. We got a good amount.....any ideas? Jeweley (maybe from a large dept. store so if she wants to return it she would have store credit), giftcards, etc. We want a gift for HER, not the classroom. Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I think teachers appreciate gift cards. We have pooled money from the class in the past and then could get a substantial gift card with each family pitching in only $10.00. It can really add up. Last year one of the teachers sent out a thank you and said she used it for new tires for her car. You could do a Visa gift card and maybe have a nice card signed by all the children.

All the teachers and office staff at my daughter's school love Starbucks, maybe a gift card with a mug?
How nice you took up a class collection. We did not, but will suggest it for the end of year or teacher appreciation week. My daughter gave her teacher a box of chocolate truffles and a Christmas ornament (which donated some of the profits to a charity). Happy Holidays

I'd suggest a gift card. My dd's preschool teacher has a sonic drink in hand every morning so we purchased a sonic gift card for her gift and she LOVED it! We had paid attention to her and what she likes. Do you know anything about her to be able to personalize where to get the card? If not, I'm sure y'all appreciate whatever you get her. How very sweet of y'all.

We are doing a gift card tree. We got a cute tree photoholder from Pier One. Then we purchased various gift cards to her favorite places. We will decorate the tree with these cards. In addition, the kids made a frame with their fingerprints and class book based on The Important Book where each child told what they thought was the "important thing" about her.

As a teacher myself, I would love getting that. The handmade tokens of appreciation always mean the most. Giftcards are also nice because after a few years of teaching you get quite a collection of candles, bath & body products, frames, etc. I love them all, but just can't use them up quickly enough!

When I was teaching a teacher on our team retired and another team mate came up with the best gift. We each got a $10 gift card to one of her favorite places then we used floral picks to put them in a flower pot (filled with coffee beans so it would smell yummy and the picks would stay) and then we wrapped pens in floral tape (green) and stuck a fake flower top to the top of the pen. It was an adorable bouquet of giftcards and pens. That way you can do a bunch of giftcards and I know you didn't want somehting for the classroom, but I was always loosing my pens and it's hard to loose when there is a giant flower bud on top. :) Now it's one of my go to gifts for people. You can divide up amounts on the giftcards into whatever amounts you choose, but you can do restruants, grocery stores, clothing stores, target, etc. :)

I guess it depends on how much money you collected. You might email some of her teacher friends and see what she likes. I would suggest a couple of small gift cards and a gift (Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Subway, Target). Are there any places she likes to grab lunch near the school or a place she might grab dinner with her family? Maybe a nice fossil watch, wallet or purse? If you buy it somewhere like Macys she can always return it and get store credit.

A cash wreath was made for our Kindergarten teachers. They sent a note saying how happy they were, although I am pretty sure they would have said it even if it were socks.

I am a teacher and can tell you that GIFT CARDS are the way to go. We would rather have a $5 gift card than a $20 anything else :)

I love the gift card tree idea. It shows a little flair and forethought. Cool idea. Way more bang than just an envelope with one gift card in it.

Price out the cheapest of the general gift cards be it amex or mastercared or visa as you don't know their personal situation and sometimes this can be used toward a need instead of a want. I found out 2 years later that by giving the gift card she payed her house gas bill and the extra money she now had available was able to save her house. I know you want something sweet but I'd go practical.

Maybe a Visa giftcard, that way she can use it where ever she wants. Or, a giftcard to a really good local restaurant.

Jewelry is already anticipating she might return it, but ah...manicures, pedicures, shampoos, things from Bed, Bath and Body, that is what they seem to cry for...I'm a teaching assistant -no one seems to remember us very often.

I hate paying the fee VISA charges for just having a gift card. Personally, I like giving cash.... I know people feel funny giving cash but I never heard anyone complain about getting it. You can go to the bank and get a fresh $100 bill or whatever... I wouldn' t give crumbled up $1 bills however :).
You could also give a Home Depot gift card if she is a homeowner or a gift card to a particular mall near you so you don't have to pay the fee.
