I go to Wilshire Baptist Church on Abrams near Mockingbird. There is an active group of people in every age group from young couples to retirees. They have a very strong MOPS (Mother's of Preschoolers) program, an excellent Mother's Day Out program and lots of preschool and children's activities. In the summer, they have Vacation Bible School, Cooking Camp, Sports Camp and Theater Camp for 5 year olds and up. There is a variety of Adult Sunday Schools to choose from and they have a strong Youth program.
This is not your typical Baptist church. At least half of the congregation came from other denominations - Methodist, Presbyterian, Catholic, Church of Christ, etc. Many couples that have two different religious backgrounds have found that Wilshire works for both of them. We are very moderate and do not belong to the Southern Baptist Convention. Example: we have women as deacons and in other leadership roles. The service is traditional - organ music, hymns and liturgical. There are no guitars, drums or video screens, so if you prefer that type of service, you might be disappointed.
Many of the kids go to Lake Highlands public schools, Dallas public schools, private schools, but there a large number from other surrounding areas like Richardson, Garland, Rowlett, etc. Because Wilshire is so unique, many people are willing to drive a ways to attend. We have about 900 to 1,200 on Sunday, so it is a mid-size church. Not a mega church, but not small either.
