Hi Everyone,

I am just wondering if some of you can give me some advice on Christmas ideas for my son who will be 6 months in December. My family is already asking me what we need, and being a first time mom, I am not sure what to tell them I will be needing at this point (besides a new carseat already!). There are so many different toys and products that I would really like to know what you/your babies like best. Thanks!

Note: Some family members refuse to get items we need (formula, diapers, etc.) for some reason because they feel these are not fun for my son....I know, its weird but unfortunately I can't change them!!

What can I do next?

Do you have the crib aquarium? That thing is awesome. Also push toys for when he starts walking. And maybe a kiddie tobaggan for the winter? My son's first Christmas was when he was 4 months old; we got mostly stuff that he used later.

my daughter was the same age last Christmas. We told people that we wanted books (to build her library) and Disney movies. These are things they will have forever, but wouldnt really want to open!

i suggest you ask for things that will get his attention,ex.,stuff that counts, sing songs, alphabet, cause he's gonna be into that stuff before you know it.i would take a trip to the toy store to get some ideas.

when my kids were that little I asked for diapers or formula just because those things are so expensive. Also if they got money I opened an account for them. Just some ideas

My son is 3 1/2 and my daughter is due on the 25th-- we ask and will continue to ask for college money. We opened a MESP for my son and will open one for Isabel once we have a SS number. The college fund is great because you get coupons you can hand out and the donor gets a tax donations (my parent's just love that). All money we get for birthdays, holidays goes directly into this account. Even if it is $10. I really feel like it is the best gift anyone can give, the children have so many toys and they just don't get played with!

That being said, your son will be getting old enough for ride on toys come spring/fall and a wagon is nice to have if you don't already have one. I have also asked for PJs-- it seems we can never have enough of those and books. If you don't have a portable DVD player and plan on traveling those are great too. I do my best to think of ideas of things my son will actually use and/or enjoy.

Gift certificates to Gymboree or other places to take a music or tumbling class are also good ideas. The classes are fun (but expensive) and your son will be just the right age to start.

Signing Time dvds! Your son can start watching them anytime, 6 months isn't too young, and they're really fun. The dvds are entertaining, plus your child learns American Sign Language. It's a great way of communicating with your little one, and it virtually eliminates the terrible twos.

My daughter was just a little older than your son last Christmas...she was about 9 months. Anyway, I had a hard time coming up with a Christmas list as well. Here are some of the things that I used to help narrow the great toy search...I tried to expand beyond what we already had. I thought that the next time she would get presents would be her birthday...what types of toys will he want in the next 6 months? Just think of all the things he'll learn before he's one. We asked for musical instruments to play with while we sang songs, large piece puzzles and magnets, a walking/push toy...we got one that converts between a bike and a walking toy so she's still using it at 18 mo (as a bike). Books, shape sorters. Little people stuff...especially with animals to help learn animal sounds. Those are just a few of the toys we got for Christmas last year and loved until her first birthday and beyond.

I hope that helps...

The little Leaps (by Leap Frog)interactive DVD remote. It is for babies as young as 6 months and up 3 years. My son (21 months) loves it.

new car seat is a great idea! Also savings bonds. You will find that you get soooooo much stuff (much of which he will barely play with). We love books as gifts also. I don't think there is any one developmental toy that is better than another- I think it's mostly just clever marketing.
I have 2 kids, 2 and 31/2. They have the most fun playing with things that they make up on their own.

You may want to invest in a bouncer/exercise seat for him to develope his legs. You may want to suggest any kind of educational toys (stacking blocks, ring towers, anything in primary colors) and possibly some "Little Einstein" movies geared for the really young. Look around in the toy department and let your instincts guide you. If you can't use it right at Christmas you'll be able to use it in the near future. :o)

Walk behind tony are great and many convert to ride on toys when your son is old enough. Also books and puppets are great toys.

Hi H.! From the time my daughter was born (2001) I have always told my family memebers that if you don't want to buy clothes then buy educational items for my kids. I figured that if they were going to give toys at least my kids could learn while playing. I hope this helps you! Have a great week!

My daughter is turning one next month, so for her birthday and X-mas I am telling anyone that is asking what to get her to get savings bonds instead of a toy that she will out grow in a few months, because so many people and I will buy her toys anyway. This way she will have both. Good Luck:)

savings bonds are great or have them open an interest earning savings account for him. theres not much besides toys he'll use for 2 months at that age, kind of a waste. or have them get clothes or items he could use next spring and summer.

My son will be six months in December as well. I was thinking of asking my MIL to pay for swimming classes.
