I work in a small office, a total of 5 in the office, including my boss. We have no idea what to get him for chistmas this year. We only have around $80-$100 to spend. We have bought him giftcards for nice restaurants in the past, but I don't think him and his wife ever used them. His wife doesnt like to leave the kids, and they dont have a babysitter. We were thinking of getting something just for him but dont know what. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I agree with Ladybug that bosses should be giving if anyone, afterall, they have' Bosses day in October as it is!

If you have collected the money already, I would consider one of two options:
1) Have a catered lunch or breakfast one day before the holiday or
2) Donate the money on his behalf to a local food bank.

There are 5-7 of us usually. We chip in every year for our boss. Some of the gifts in the past have been...

We had a football jersey made with our company as the team and his name on the back, with the number 1. We all signed it and had it framed. It hangs right in our front office.
We gave him an outside heater for his patio
Engraved picture frame and desk clock from things remembered
Omaha Steaks
Texas Ranger Basebal Tickets
Zero Gravity Chairs
A Martin Birdhouse
This year we are buying a sweatshirt from his high school alma mater and putting together a slide show of his football glory days to play at the company party.

Awesome! I have always loved my bosses. We always would collect or individually give a gift to them. I usually gave them something for their families to do together.

I suggest maybe a "New Years Basket."

Include a bottle of Sparkling wine and a bottle of sparkling Apple cider some plastic Champagne glasses for the whole family. Noise makers and 2012 hats.. Make it festive with Shiny Mylar tissue.. It will a fun thing for their family to enjoy together.

We also have done a Family Game night.. With board games, snacks, and joke books.

Family Movie night with Blockbuster (or netflix) gift cards, Snacks etc..

"Christmas morning Breakfast Basket".. Pancake or Waffle mixes, Maple Syrup, Good Bacon, sausage or Ham, oranges, coffee, Hot chocolate mix. .. etc.

Wow! Surprised at the "no gifts for bosses" sentiments so far...

My boss is an awesome woman and I would never NOT get her a Christmas gift.
She loves wine, so sometimes I get her a bottle of wine. Or Kaluha.
Or a silk scarf, gloves, etc.
She's not a very "scent" person so no body lotions, etc. in her case.

What about nice new leather gloves, Steeler hat/scarf, Leather portfolio for his office? Key fob, wallet.
What does he like to do outside of work? Music? iTunes gift card?
Hunting? Wool socks, gloves, hat, REI gift card if he's the outdoors type.

Personally, I don't believe in getting gifts for bosses. They are the ones who should be getting gifts for you.
If you have already collected the funds and want to buy a present, get something nice for his children.
