BIL and his new GF recently moved to Austin and in with us until they can get on their feet. Don't know her very well but feel we should get her a Christmas Gift BUT WHAT DO I GET HER. What I know: she recently finished school to be a Medical Assistant and looking for job in that industry, not good at cooking (she informed me that she makes salad and cereal, she did attempt pancakes this morning and didn't do too bad), She's 26, no kids, small dog, not a great upbringing, pretty independant, about as mature as one could be at 26, doesn't wear jewelry, I haven't seen her read a book, I know she's a picky eater, not sure if she has a journal or if she even likes writing. Not even sure what tv shows she likes. They brought bedroom furniture and clothes and not much else. BIL not much help. We asked for lists but nothing yet. Plus we are on a budget. $25 to $35 give or take for each of them. Any ideas?

You could get her a gift card to a Scrub store, since she'll need scrubs for work most likely. Or get a bath&body works set, she can always exchange for a different scent if she doesn't like it. I think there's a scrub store at the Round Rock outlets. Good luck!
Nothing says"I have no idea what to get you" like bath products, BUT...if they are NICE, it can still be a nice gift.
A friend of mine makes all natural hand-crafted bath products. I am sure you can find something like that in Austin. If not, here is my friend's website:

How about a gift card to Alamo Drafthouse.. For that amount. they can each see the move and have a pizza and drinks.. It is a very "Austin" place to go..
Or the Hiball... it is on South Lamar. It is a hip bowling Alley, with dancing and dinner.. It is owned by the Alamo Drafthouse people..
If you think she wants to start cooking some, maybe one of Sandra Lee's Semi-homemade cookbooks would be a good starting point. She starts with prepared or boxed stuff from the grocery store and then fancies it up a bit.
I like the suggestion of a manicure, too. She would want her hands to look nice and a manicure is something many women won't spend their own money on.
How about a nice wooden salad bowl set? The kind that come with the large serving bowl and tongs? I've seen nice ones at places like Kohl's and Marshalls/TJ Maxx that are within your price range. If they are trying to get on their feet, it's something she could use when they get their own place.
How about a cook book? Or a certificate to a restaurant.
does she get her nails done? Maybe you could get her a gift certificate to somewhere in town that you go to, or a friend goes to? If she gets her nails done, then she will need to find a new place to go now that she has moved....
How about tickets to one of those champagne dinners in a local restaurant/club for New Year's Eve?
You coudl try bath and body works. Or maybe some nice sheets or blanky for there bed or some pretty little pillows. I gift card to her favoret store, or some pretty little ear rings? Some nice candys, or some candols? Thats about all I got. I think its great that you have taken them in...very nice of you!!! Best wishes sweety!!
So take a picture of them together. Buy a frame, toss it in. Instant gift.
You could give them a $50 gift card for dinner.....
Or get her a gift card to Target, Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc. (Even if she doesn't read they have calenders, stationary, etc.)
I like the movie/dinner gift idea as well.
Or what about a travel guide for Austin?
New sheets? Towels?
How about body wash and a loufa puff. Sweet smelling candle. Decorative frame for pictures. This is just a couple of ideas.
If she's going to become a medical assistant, she'll be working on her feet all day. A pair of magnetic insoles from Nikken can help her feel energized, while alleviating foot pain and fatigue. You can find them at www.nikken.com/brendaramsey. Click on the Shop Now tab to find a complete list of products.
Gift certificate for a local salon...she could get her hair or nails done. Ask her what she likes, tell her you want to get to know her better and see what you find out.
I would get her a gift card, that way she can use it for what she wants. Then as you get to know her it will be easier to think of gifts for her. I'm sure she will appreciate anything you get her.
Good luck!
You could get them a combination gift :-) 2 movie tickets and a GC to a local restaurant near the theater? that way they can have an evening out together!!
A gift certificate for a salon so she can have a nice haircut for her interviews. If you have a mastercuts, supercuts, or walmart salon 25 dollars would cover a cut and blow dry. Or a gift certificate to a scrubs store.
