Cranium games are a great idea. Also every kid, boy or girl like remote control cars trucks helicopters, etc. I have a six year old girl who has been asking for that.

I'd do a gift card to some place (Wal-mart, Super Target, etc.) And let her pick it out. That's what I do sometimes when my son has birthday party(s) to go to. Good Luck.

I was just reading today about a product called Illustory. I know it's available at Target.com. She can write and illustrate her own story, send it in, and a few weeks later receive a professionally printed, hardbound book. I though it looked really cool, I'd buy it for my daughter if she were a little older.

There is bound to be a felt set that she would love. Maybe CastleTales? It comes with a big board and a CD that tells the story and sings it in song too. There are 6 stories with this set: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Frog Prince, St. George and the Dragon, Rumpelstiltskin, and The Princess and the Pea. It is a very unique gift. If that doesn't sound like the right thing for her then check out the website and see if anything else would be better. The website is: www.funfelt.com/D..html. Contact me for a 10% discount. Good luck!

Does she have her ears pierce or like jewelry? I'm in the same boat with my niece I usually buy her a nice piece of jewelry or even make her some and she loves that.

webkinz are a very neat stuffed animal/computer item. most kids at that age would have fun with them. she'll be able to name her pet and than interact with the pet on the computer. they run about $10 to $15. and they can be bought at certain stores or on ebay!!

How about a magazine subscription? There are a lot of good ones for kids and most children love getting things in the mail addressed to them.

if she already has everything she could possibly need, i would suggest things to challenge her mind...puzzle books....craft kits...origami sets....sewing projects...and here's the important part of the plan: your time to do the project with her....perhaps promising one day a month where she spends the day with you doing a project...(if you don't know how to do it, then you can have fun learning it together!!)....

kids today have too much "stuff" and not enough challenge....and most of the time not enough one-on-one attention....your time and attention would be a bigger gift than anything you could buy at a store....

What about a magazine subscription? I'm a mom of boys, so I don't really know what's out there for girls, but check out magazines.com. That's not the sort of thing parents usually think of to buy their kids.

My neices are the same way. They are 4 and 7. They too have everything their little hearts desire but not because my brother and sis in law spoil them but my sis in laws parents do. What I have found that they love is a gift certificate to somewhere they love, only I take them and it gives us quality time together.

Example: I take them to Fat Cats where we have pizza, play video games and go bowling.

We all love it and enjoy the time together.

crafts! paints, colored pencils, ceramics, watercolors, beads, etc.... there are some terrific age apropriate craft kits. or,

you could also help her choose a charity she wants to donate to. there are many wildlife & other environmental causes your neice might be excited to spend a little christmas money on. never too early to encourage a kid to give to the needy.

OR you could finda local venue which serves high tea (grand america or bee hive lounge if you're in SLC) the experience together with memories are worth more than any monetary gift. whoa...

did i go overboard? is that possible with nieces? i have two seven year old neices and then some! they're so much fun! good luck!

Hi A., My kids love the Leapfrog Leapster. Its fun and has educational games. Another idea might be a day with only with my aunt - have lunch, go ceramic painting, go to a movie then maybe for dessert somewhere fun. OR I know my girls would love to have afternoon tea. You could get a great hat for her and you wear one too. The is a place in Meridian that serves afternoon tea. It is quite fun. You could treat her to a play, I know that a lot of local theaters have plays going now. You could take a one day knitting class together or a cooking class. There is a place in Eagle (on Eagle and Chinden) that has cooking classes for kids. Hope this helps. L.

I always love giving books. There are so many good ones for a 7 year old. Check out Barnes & Noble or Borders or go online to Amazon. It could be fiction like the American Girl series. If her parents read to her it could be a chapter book. If you need more suggestions let me know....P. from Boise

Hi A., my daughter just turned 8 and the "IN" thing with 7-11 year olds are Webkins! You can get them at any Hallmark store and other places as well, I know Limited Too sells them and some CD stores in the malls. But it is a stuffed animal and then you enter a code that comes with it onto the website and "adopt" it. Then you have to play games to earn money to buy it stuff like food, clothes, beds and all that. They are pretty cool. You can check out the website yourself and it will tell you all about them. I know that is the in thing around here, hope that helps:o)

What about a journal? My son is 7 and even though their writting capabilities are a bit limited he loves to write about his day. Not to mention how fun it is to look back and read what he has written, sometimes they are really funny. Also another idea would be a scrapbook and supplies we have let our girls make their own and they have alot of fun, they are very creative and it's unique because its all about them! Good Luck

You can't go wrong with a little cash or a gift card. Or an Aunt/Neice shopping day! Either way, she can pick out what she wants. Or a savings bond, she may not appreciate it much now, but when it comes to paying for her college or having some extra spending money in the future, she'll appreciate it!
