I would like to send cookies or some homemade food items out of the country. Does anyone know how long cookies and fudge will keep in the mail? What other ideas of homemade treats would mail easily?

What can I do next?

Okay so I'm a little late to the question but wanted to add my 2 cents! I mail cookies quite a bit, not that far, but they usually arrive pretty intact. I line the bottom of the container with fresh bread, or sometimes even buns, to help preserve moisture. This totally works. Then if you have room, add more to the top, especially for international travel. I put a layer of press and seal over the top before putting lid on. Fill the container as full as possible so there isn't a lot of room for them to bang into each other. My friend is always happy with her packages! ;) oh and I find chic chip holds up the best for me.

Instead of sending the actual cookies themselves, you might want to make up the mix of just the dry ingredients and send that instead (easier with cookies than with fudge). Layer the dry ingredients for a nice look and send in a jar with the recipe and the wet ingredients they will need to add...just a thought :-) You could also try beverage mixes like chai or peppermint hot chocolate etc.

THey will make it there and taste ok but will probably be broken. Ours were always crumbs when we sent them. I have sent to Japan, Okinawa, Iraq, Afghanistan.
Do not send jelly cookies or soft bread types, like cranberry bread. They tend to mold.
Spritz
fudge, sometimes gets there a little dry but still good
Ginger cookies,
peanut butter
sugar cookies, these break
Peppermint bark, this is a good one and ships well
Puppy Chow, this too, very good and ships well
White chocolate covered pretzels
Bourbon balls
snickerdoodles
Pack each kind in its own gallon plastic bag then pack the bags in a ziploc tote, then in a box.

This year we are making ornaments to send through the mail. I know it's not quite a "treat", but it will keep.

Oh, and, there a are many hard candies that can be homemade - perhaps that would be more up your alley?
