Downtown Austin has lights all the way down Congress Avenue. At the State Capital there is also a large Christmas tree.

On 37th Street and Guadalupe there is a neighborhood that lights the whole street. We used to walk the neighborhood and then go to Amy's ice cream for a snack.

The Premier event in Austin at Christmas time is in Zilker Park. The Worlds tallest man made Christmas tree is there. Also the "Trail of Lights" is amazing with tens of thousands of lights. They have a yule log, all kinds of performances and Santa is there.. Best of all. All of these things are free!

here is link. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/tol/ Take a shuttle. they drop you off and then pick you up in front. There is a small charge to ride. We used to go with a group of families and sing Christmas Carols to get the whole bus to sing!
Remember to dress warmly and be prepared to walk. Also opening weekend to any of these events are really busy, so plan ahead and go in a good mood!

Hey A.-Of course the Trail of Lights in Zilker is the best, but this weekend Georgetown is having it's annual Christmas Stroll. It's on the square dowtown Georgetown and there are lots of neat booths and lots of neat shops on the square, but there is live music and of course Santa will be there. Check it out!

Look for a parentwise magizine. It is free and I got one at my gyn office in Round Rock. It comes out monthly and has a calendar for the month on events and shows all over Austin. Some are free and some have a small free. This Saturday the 6th at Lakeline and Barton Creek Mall it is breakfest with Santa from 8am-10am.

Hi A. - You should definitely check out the Trail of Lights once they open up on December 14th. Be aware that it's going to be very heavy in traffic on opening night and the weekends.

On Sunday, Dec. 7, Zilker Park turns on it's Christmas Tree (it's not actually a tree). It's a moonlight tower (I believe) and there's lots of lights. I remember as a child twirling under the lights. On the 7th, there will be a singalong Christmas caroling at 6pm. You can go the see the lights any night to twirl.
