I am concidering Homeschooling preschool/kidergarten when we first move back to TX. My daughter thrives on interaction with others. Are there any type of homeschooling groups or communities or anything in the area? Also, what Christian based Homeschooling curriculum would you suggest for preschool/kindergartn, and why?

What can I do next?

Hi B.!

There are many Christian groups in this area. I am a member of Frisco HIS, but I have heard good things about all of the groups. Here's a list for you. Scroll down to the bottom where it says other local support groups.

I also use Abeka curriculum. We are only using math and phonics at this point, and learning science and history through fun projects and outings.

I would suggest looking into different homeschooling methods to find out what would be a good fit for your child. Abeka may not be right for him, depending on his learning style.

Here are some descriptions of homeschooling methods:

A great place to find curriculum reviews from other moms is:

Good luck!

B., I would recommend the Texas Virtual Academy Southwest program. It's aboslutely outstanding! My daughter completed her 6th grade yr thru them and I have enrolled her for 7th. The program is absolutely free and they will send you a free computer if you need one! Check them out...

Denton County Home School Association (DCHSA) has close to 300 home school families offering many activities, sports, and park days. There are many curriculum options available. The Rod and Staff preschool/kindergarten workbooks are very good and inexpensive. You can look them up on the internet.

Hi B.,

First of all thank your husband for serving our country for me. And thank you for standing by him as he does. I'm very excited that you are coming home.
I homeschool my three chidren. K, 3rd and 8th. Before I started homeschooling I worked at a private christian preschool in Frisco. Then and now I have come to love the ABeka curriculum. If you are able to start your 3 year old on it now, it will set a great foundation for math and reading down the road. You can go on line to www.ABekabooks.com.
to check it out. There are many, many opportunities in north Texas to get plugged into. I would check out FriscoHIS, M.A.R.C.H. in McKinney, and P.E.A.C.H in Plano, just to name a few. They meet at the park, roller rink, iceskating rink, and many other places monthly. There are dance, gymnastics, sports and other things as well for Homeschooled kids.
Good Luck and God Bless

There are 2 that I know of for sure in the Denton area. One is called Calvary Academy and its like part time school and part time home school. I believe it starts at first grade. Ive met quite a few kids and parents who go there or have kids who go there and they all really like it. The other is more of an enrichment program for parents who are doing home school. I think its called sunlight and its through a baptist church here in Denton. I know 3 or 4 moms who do this program currently and really like it. What area will you be moving to? If you are interested in either of these programs let me know and I can get you specific info.

There are lots of Christian based homeschool groups and coops in the area. My kids are now in high school so we are not members of much anymore. I always enjoyed going to Mardel to look at curriculim but I did create my own........

The DFW area has a LOT of various homeschool groups and opportunities. Do you know where in N. TX you will be looking? I live in Plano (near Frisco) and there are a few different Christian groups to choose from just in this area. There are co-op opportunities, field trips, clubs (like 4-H, scouts, debate, chess, etc.). My oldest daughter just graduated this past June and had her ceremony with a group of other homeschoolers. It was great! TX is the 4th state we've homeschooled in and it has more opportunities, by far, than any other state we've lived in. Feel free to write if you have any more questions.
