Hi:

My 5 month old is being baptised tomorrow. Should I get presents for the God parents? I didn't think this was expected. Any advice appreciated...thanks!

I do not think that it is necessary. I have not heard of this before and I did not give my son's godparents any. However, the godparents were my family and we don't really expect any gifts to show our gratitude. I guess it really depends on how you feel and would desire to do. I think you will be fine with whatever you choose. Enjoy the baptism!

My son was just baptized a few weeks ago and we didn't give gifts to the godparents, I honestly didn't even think of it. I have no idea if that is the norm because I haven't ever been a godparent or even been to many christenings. I think most people just give gifts to the baby, but it might be a nice gesture after the fact to give them a framed picture or something personal.

I did not get presents for my two kids Godparents. For my first son, I had a professional photographer that came to my house and took pictures of my son. She did a Christening card with a beautiful picture of my son and the information of the Church and the Godparents names in it. With my second son, I did take pictures of each Godparent, after the Christening, with my baby and bought a couple of identical picture frames at Michaels. I just got the chance to give the one to the Godmother. She loved it. It was a very affordable present and very personal. These are two options for you to consider.

I don't think there is any real etiquette (correct spelling) that you must follow regarding christenings, however, a nice note to the godparents explaining why you chose them would be a nice gesture.

I guess you could do that. Generosity is never a bad idea.

I have never seen it done. We didn't even consider it for our children's godparents. After all, we had just shared with them the gift of our child's spiritual upbringing. What greater gift could be given?

In my family we always would get a present for the god parents. I have been given or have given a framed picture, piece of jewelry, gift card, and can't think of anything else at this time.

If you have not found a gift and would like to give one, just take a nice picture tomorrow and give it to the godparents.

I am not sure it is expected.

We got cute little picture frames, then sent them nice pictures of the baby and the godparent. They both enjoyed this.
