Well I did it!! Yikes-14 inches of hair chopped off and on its way to a cancer sicken little girls in need of hair donations. My hair stylist went a little "scissor happy" and cut way too much off, had a picture of what I wanted, nothing like the picture:( I like the look of the hairstyle in front (my son said welcome to 2011) but the back is just plan and frizzy!!!

Yikes what an experience I know it will grow back, and will take me awhile to get use to it. My coworkers where so in shock (didn’t tell them I was finally cutting it) I had show n tell most of the day....

What do I use to tame the hair now? I bought a flat iron, but need to know what products to use so that I do not fry what's left of my hair!!!

What can I do next?

Good for you!!! I've chopped mine before and it is an adjustment : ) Careful with the flat iron as it will damage the hair and dry it out. I use conditioner - the kind out spray on or leave in. You can also get some serum to put on after your hair is damp or dry to "calm it down".

I flat iron my hair and use an oil that I get from my salon. It goes on my dry hair, before I flat iron. No fried hair on my head. LOL

AWW GOOD FOR YOU!! :) I was just thinking about that too... my hair is getting super long... but when it's short I get a super huge red headed afro/little orphan Annie 'do ;)

They make all sorts of great stuff now. I like the stuff that Fantastic Sam's makes to reduce heat damage (and I use a hydrating shampoo/conditioner) when my hair is very short. I blow dry it, then spray that Sam's serum on, then flat iron it.

...that's WHEN it's short ;)

AAAAAWWWW!! this is wonderful!!! My next door neighbors did this - the mother donated 18" and the daughter 26"!!!! (grandmother is a breast cancer survivor)

My neighbor got hers tamed by doing the "Hamel" look - and her hair grows back fast!! SOOO ENVIOUS!!!! Talk to another hair stylist and see what they would do - look or watch their work on other people to see if you like before you use them...

I can't do this - my hair doesn't grow that fast or maybe I don't let it - but I would LOVE to do this!!!

My 7 yr old just did that for the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program. Can you go back to the salon that did it and maybe ask for some advice on styling it? They should be able to offer you some suggestions on the upkeep of your new hairstyle, especially after the generous donation you just made. That is a great thing you did! Kudos to you!

If you have thick hair then you need a good stylist who can thin the hair to keep it from looking huge. Then yes a straightening iron. I like the ones with a curved edge so you can straighten or curl. I put one curl into my hair so it adds a wave while smoothing it down. I cannot go just straight with my thick culy hair. Adding a wave is a good way to smooth my hair but work with the natual tendancy it has to flip and curl.
