Hi all,

Like so many others, I have a chocolate addiction to milk chocolate. I absolutely hate dark chocolate, I've tried and tried to eat it but it just sends me hunting for milk chocolate. I want to get over my addiction and things I've tried are: Cold turkey, Metro Mint chocolate water, apples dipped in dark chocolate to help sweeten the darkness better.....What other ideas do you have for me to get over my addiction??

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Try taking extra B vitamins. I had an unhealthy craving for chocolate so I found that it could be linked to a vitamin defincency. I took it for awhile and now I'm fine. I still love chocolate but I don't crave it out of control like I did before. =D I hope that helps.

What constitutes an addiction?? I say embrace it, we all could use a little more love! ;) If you need to cut back try buying less or portioning out how much you think is reasonable to eat day by day and eat it all at once or space it out. Semi sweet is a good transition into dark chocolate. Most chocolate chips are semi sweet so you can start there!

Why do you need to get over it? If you're getting fat then I get cutting back but chocolate is such a cheap luxury why torture yourself?

Not that there's anything wrong with Milk Chocolate for a treat... but if you are trying to like the dark variety... be careful not to go TOO dark your first few times. It can taste rather bitter.

Just plain "dark" chocolate---not one of the 70% dark cacao bean or whatever ones.

Then, dip it in peanut butter. Remember the old Reese's peanut butter cups... one person walking with a PB jar, one person on a bike with a chocolate bar? They run into each other and the bar dunks in the jar.... try it with a dark chocolate bar, like Hershey's special dark. (the original one).
YUM.

I love love love chocolate. One thing I love is nutella. It tastes like chocolate but it has hazelnuts in it. Surprisingly it has less calories than peanut butter. And it's a tad more healthy than just pure chocolate. I have been known to open a bag of chocolate chips for my chocolate fix, eat the nutella with a spoon, etc. My friend is the same way and we laugh about how nutty we are!! Chocolate is my love :-)

I agree with Jaimee. Milk chocolate contains sugar and milk. Both are very bad for us, whether you have weight problem are not.

Well chocolate can be addicting but there are rarely any terrible side effects that go along with it.
If you get rid of chocolate you may turn to something else more damaging, like alcohol, high fructose corn syrup/sugar, soda.
So cut back on your consumption.
Portion out exactly what you will have for that day then put the rest away.
Do not buy any "extra" for the week.
When you are doing a great job at something, reward yourself with extra chocolate. This way it is not forbidden.

Dark chocolate is good only if it is GOOD dark chocolate (European, for example). Not Hersheys. Or other common brands. Lindt's dark with Hazelnut is good though.

I had to read this post because I hate chocolate of all sorts. I'm a butteraholic LOL so that would be my weakness. If you like it then have some, not 4 or 5 candy bars. Just enough to taste and enjoy. It's all good :)

one small handful of chocolate chips has always done the trick for me. I actually make my husband portion it out for me then put the bag away so i get called out if I go back for more haha

Eat semi-sweet... one of my favorites!

I am not a big milk chocolate fan, but love dark chocolate. Also, dark chocolate is actually good for women ;)

Well, you could try eating milk chocolate until it makes you throw up. That could work.

Or you could try just going off milk chocolate altogether for three weeks. (I know - I'm cringing at the very thought.) When you think milk chocolate, you could eat a piece of hard candy, perhaps, or a cracker... you need to figure out what will work for you.

The idea is that, after three weeks without it, if you taste a little piece of milk chocolate again, it's NOT going to taste so good. You'll wonder why you thought you couldn't live without it.

This is not foolproof... and I know from experience that you can get "hooked" again if you choose to go back to milk chocolate full time. But if you want to get unaddicted, as a way of starting to be disciplined from now on, it might be worth a try.
