This is the first year my children have gotten flu shots. The first year they need two shots 30 days apart. They received the first shot. Now the MD's office has called to tell me they are all out of flu shots and won't be getting anymore. Does anyone know where I can go to get them their second shot? If they will take insurance or approximate cost? I have 4 kids, 7 Months - 5 Years.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks So Much Ladies! I ended up not getting them the second flu shot. After looking into it, the first shot is probably enough coverage. Next year they will only need the one shot. I truly appreciated your information! Thanks again!

I don't know where you're located, but go downtown to Health Services Building. Immunizations/Shots are free. Call ahead to make sure they have them in-stock and available but they accept anyone, regardless of insurance, income, etc.

That happened to me last year but the nurse told me they should be ok being that my boys got the first shot. They got a little cold but that was it.. Nothing major.

If they've have the first one, they're about 70% covered, so it's not like they'll have no protection at all. You could try one of the MinitClinics, but check to see if your insurance covers that. Most other offices will not give them unless you're an established patient.

I know the clinics in Walgreens and CVS give flu shots you could try them. Or the health department

I would try calling Children's Mercy for recommendations or the Jackson County/ Johnson County Health Clinics. The pediatricians group at St. Luke's South still had vaccine availability as of 11/30/07.
